anyone have a spray gun?
i am so smart and clicked the wrong thing on paintscratch.com. so, instead of buying the spray can i bought regular paint. so now i can either buy more in a spray can, or i can buy a spray gun and paint them with that using the paint i have. i went to home depot and saw some decent looking ones and almost bought one but i figured i'd come on here first. i also found the one from home depot on ebay for a 1/3 of the price. anyone have experience with these?
btw, it's not a regular house painting one, it specifically says for automotive and other random painting. the nice people at home depot didn't feel like caring that i had a question so i left without buying or talking to them. does anyone also know what kind of air compressor you have to use it with? my friend has one so hopefully i can do that.

Automotive paint must be thinned correctly to by whats called sprayable. You can't just spray pure base color. Then you need a clear coat on top of that. Both should be thinned by about 35%. Use the recommended thinner for the type of paint you have. It should specify it on the can.
cool thanx, but do you think that gun will be decent? i have primer, base coat, the other with the pearl added, and then a clearcoat. i want to do my altezza's body color so do you think this will work? i'll make sure i read all instructions and how to do stuff and test it on something else first, but i don't imagine it would be all that difficult. i think i might buy one just like that unless someone advises otherwise. thanx

I couldn't tell ya if the gun your looking at is descent. Make sure you prep the altezza's correctly. Scuff up the area you want to paint and clean it with reducer(thinner). Apply a few coats of base to cover evenly, then only enough coats of pearl to match your car. Then clear it. The number of coats of peral is key to a good match. To many or to little and your color will be way off.
if it's the $80 HVLP gun by Husky, it will get the job done. I bought one last week to paint some furniture around the house, and also painted my old truck with one.
just be sure to practice on something that you don't care about ruining. there's a LOT of technique involved in painting auto finishes- especially if they're a metal flake or pearlized finish like on most Maxes.
if you're white, black, red, etc you have it easier, but you shoudl still practice on something else first.
and yeah, a regular air compressor will work. be sure to by an in-line air/oil filter also, otherwise you'll end up with fisheyes (spots) in the paint. they suck, and you have to completely sand it down and respray to get rid of them.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=2811 do you guys think an airbrush would be easier? i'm looking to paint my altezzas but don't want to fork over money for some place to do it. i'd like to do it myself and be proud after but don't want it coming out like crap. stupid ol' me should have just bought the spray paint from paintscratch...
thank me later...

note: this is not to spray an entire panel of a car. you can use this to spray small sections (properly thinned out w/ reducer). also don't expect a "professional looking" job but if you're painting taillights you'll be ok.
good luck.

I have that gun I painted a whole car with it! Looked great! Pay attention to how thin you make it so you can duplicate the process. there is also a filter of some sort, I suggest you buy it!
