I got rear ended today! Car might be written off.....

I got rear ended by a 97 Sentra today. My bumper is pushed flush with my trunk, the exhaust is all bent, and the spare tire is stuck in the well from the impact. Funny, my rear lights are almost OK. Just one small chip.

I was stopped, signaling to turn, when the Sentra behind me saw me at the last minute, locked up the tires and plowed into the back of me.

I will find out if the car is written off tomorrow when they look at it.
I hope not, but the with 174,000 miles it is not worth much, so it is easier to write it off.

I may be looking for a 99 5-speed Maxima.
-Frank.

(Praying for it to be fixed, not written off)

Sorry to hear this frank. I really hope everything turns out right. Yes get a 99. You won't be getting a G35 will you?

Even if it is a write off, buy it back and fix it. Isn't that even a better senario?

You're worthless.

Frank : good luck... I know a few salespeople here and there so if you end up looking for a new car, maybe I can help. But I already gave you my thoughts on the other forum

Oh man ... that sucks.

Hope every turns out ok. But at least you're looking at another Maxima if the car gets written off so you'll still be in the family.

I will post pics after I drop off the car at the shop.

Update: Took the car to Oaktown Collision (In Oakville) and they will tell me the amount of the damage tomorrow.

By popular demand here are some pics:

The re-bar behind the bumper is broken in two, and that pushed into my trunk so much that the spare tire was stuck in the trunk.
I will post more when I know more...

Thanks for all your support and comments. Only car guys understand this stuff.

I hope everything turns out for the best. Beautiful Maxima you have(had) there.

On a lighter note... Have you taken the "rental" out for a 4-wheeling 'test drive' yet?

YES, but just a little one for now. 4 wheeling is kind of cool.

hopefully you'll get the car written off like you want it. Maybe the next car won't be so much of a trouble when it comes to trannies

Even if the car is written off (which I DON'T want), I will be picking up a 99 Maxima, so I can put the y-pipe and suspension on the newer Maxima.

motorvate.ca is not going away, I have tons of content to add from work I did in the summer.

I don't think that happyricefob meant any disrespect with his pic request. That seems fairly common in accident threads. Maybe it should NOT be, but most of the time we like to see what the extent of the damage is, not to bask in your misfortune. I am not necessarily defending his action, but I don't necessarily think that he meant any disrespect, either.

That said, glad that you are doing okay, and best of luck with the insurance company!

Frank, is this the beast that created that monstrous burnout in one of your videos? I showed it to many non-maxima owners and the "holy sh**s" were neverending.
Make the best out of the poor girl and keep up the good work on motorvate.
P.S. I keep forgetting to check those codes for my acting-up AC, you told me about. But I will soon...

that's the spirit!

and i'm really sorry to hear about the accident. It can happen to anyone just like that... unfortunate that such a simple sounding incident will have such a lasting effect

good luck with getting it fixed

make sure they do a good job and don't leave anything out. I find most body shops manage to screw something up and will typically go for the overall 'visual' of getting the car fixed to cut costs and time.

I wonder how difficult/expensive would it be to put a rear end off one of the newer I30s. Those slanted taillights are soooooooooo nice.

I too have shown that video to a lot of my car buddies... the first reaction is "thats a maxima?.... like the one you have?...lol, ur kidding right? wait...whats wrong with YOUR car then?" Even my friend who owna 65 and a 98gt mustang was impressed by the ammount of smoke, and your guts to go for it. instead of all talk... it was all smoke
