TRANNY TRICK idea that works
#1
I read the post about disconnecting whatever that thing is for the brutal shifts. So I went to Radio shack and bought a potentiometer and wired it in series with that thing. Now I have a **** that adjusts the firmness of my shifts.
Let me know if you want specific part numbers and wire colors.

Details please.. Some solid data that proves that the harder shifts make a difference would be nice..

ok ok.
I used a 1 Megohm Linear-Taper Potentiometer. The Radio Shack part number is 271-211. I wired it in series with the thingy under the hood. I wired it into the WHITE wire with the BLACK STRIPE.
NOT THE GREEN WITH RED STRIPE!!
Then I ran the wires into the cockpit and that was that. I havent decided where to mount the **** yet though.
I cant make any real claims about how this affects acceleration times. But it does make the tranny shift hard enough to really chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift if its turned up all the way. It certainly FEELS a whole lot faster, there is no lag in acceleration when it shifts. It just goes BANG and jerks your head back and your off.
This is probably not good for your tranny in the long run. I think I wont use it much, but every once in a while is fun and shouldnt really hurt anything.
I'll try to get pics up tonight.

this isnt nearly as abusive as a neutral drop. Mainly beacuse the car is already rolling. Also, the line pressure is all the way up, so the clutches just grab as hard as they can instead of slipping. The main vicitms of this abuse would be the tranny mounts, engine mounts and CV joints.

I figure the 5th gen would have a simlar setup for the location of the resistor right? I would think that a harder shifting tranny would be better for the clutch packs since they aren't slipping to give you hat smooth shift. How much different is this from recalibrating the VB? Doesn't a recalibrated VB give you an increase in line pressure also?

This should work the same on a 5th gen. The VB mod does increase the line pressure as I understand it. The difference here is that the tranny loses the ability to vary the line pressure, its high all the time. This makes every shift, regardless of throttle position, hard. The part throttle shifts are very clunky and its hard to drive smoothly, that's why I put in a ****, so I can control when its hard and how hard it is. I like to think I'm smarter than the TCM.
