Ceramic Coated turbo,feedpipe,header PICS

Many of you may know ive been working on my kit to get it upto fullspeed and re-do it since alot of it was done with shotty workmanship.

Here are some pics of my items before the ceramic coating.

Yes its a MAJOR difference, they sandblasted all the rust off and then ceramic coated it. I love the high polish look it has. The reason why I decided to do the compressor housing is that the Chromer was too busy and I thought, what the hell, just ceramic coat this puppy too. I may end up ceramic coating all my IC piping for two reason, 1) Looks 2) To keep the heat from the engine bay heating up the pipe and the Intercooled air inside.

This is all being installed tonight. Then tommorow install some new IC piping and then hopefully drive it for the first time in 1month.

Nothing was powdercoated, everything you see was Ceramic Coated. It cost about $55 for the header.

I rewelded most of the butt welds on the feed pipe. Some grinded down and strength welded them. The bungs and other things were left alone. Alot of those welds were so thick that I couldnt grind them down to reweld. I can show you test welds I did on some piping. I will PM you those links.

Wow! That was some rust. Looks 10-million times better...almost to good to reinstall.

I would coat the intercooler discharge to TB if it isn't too much. I wouldn't worry about the compressor discharge to intercooler unless it looks .

Why didn't you coat the downpipe? Who did the coating? Are you reassembling the turbo?

Nauman, you been MIA lately. Things are going well. Not too bad, car has been down for one month in my garage and i was getting a tad ****ed cause I miss driving it not to mention it stares at me everyday in the garage like "Drive me bish!"

Alex: Definetely was some rust you aint seen before. But i gaurantee you that your header looks like that as well. The people that did the ceramic coating is Miller Powdercoating out in Lilburn GA. Why didnt I coat the downpipe? Well thanks to your buddy Hal, he welded the entire downpipe, cat, bpipe, muffler all in one piece. I would have to hack it off. Didnt feel like do that right now since I just wanted to get this working and then Im going to redo the entire exhaust using Oval tubing to clear certain areas like the tranny pan better. I dont understand what you mean coat the intercooler discharge? You mean the entire IC piping from the intercooler discharge all the way to my TB? Thats what my plans are except this fool only took 3weeks to get the ceramic coating done, thats why my car sat there.

Kirk: Its looking good. I just reinstalled all that stuff. I even started the bish up with just the turbo feed pipe on while the turbo sat there to make sure the oil lines were not leaking, fuel lines were good, and all that good stuff. So far so good except I threw a SES for the MAF, no biggie, I cleared it with the OBDII. Damn was the car loud with it just having the turbo feed pipe.

Kloogy: BLING BLING mother@#$#er!

I'll take some pics tomorrow, because mine doesn't look anything like that rusty thing.

My buddy Hal? I don't know Hal enough to say he's my buddy or not my buddy?

Yeah...coat the intercooler to throttle body for sure. I just wouldn't worry about coating the tubing from the compressor to the intercooler inlet unless it's cheap or looks blingbling. The larger the temperature difference between the incoming charge air and the cooling air across the intercooler the better the heat transfer.

Id like to do it except this guy is about 50miles from where I live, only open 9-5, so gotta drop the stuff off during lunch, which takes me 1hr for the whole trip, then not to mention fool doesnt take any credit cards, cash only. Then to top it off takes 3weeks to complete something that shouldve been done in 1week tops.

If I give him the IC piping, he will take ages. Then again the car will sit there while I wait for him. Im waiting on this new shop opening about 10mins from me.

Well maybe yours wont be that rusty, but the reason that one was is because remember its a fedspec, I got it from a salvage yard way back before I got the turbo done to get it ready for the turbo install, but my calipspec one is almost the same amount of rust now on it. Its straight cast iron anyways, not much you can do about it.

Sorry about hosting it on Port81, my ISP blocks hosting from port 80. So I have to do that as a workaround.

For you Ive put them here as well or other people that cant see them cause of port 81.

Looks good, did you ceramic coat the rear header? It must really help with keeping the heat down in the engine bay.

To get the rear header off, you have to remove the rear engine mount, and even then to get it off is no joke. I tried to see if it was feasable to even get the bolts off that I could access without getting the rear engine mount off, and it wasnt easy, so decided against it.

Reason being is the front of the car is the most problematic with my engine temp getting near H levels. This should solve that issue "Hopefully".

nice. Does all that ceramic coating really make a difference in performance? If so much do you estimate? Don't forget to tell us how the first drive goes. Peace.

Jaime, glad you got a chance to look at the thread.

Shawn, Got the chop saw and a few other things, I think its just automatic that I have to spend at least $100 everytime I go to Harbor Frieght Tools.

Yea too bad it didnt come like that from the start, but at least I fixed it and know my shiet enough to fix it. Not to mention Ive fabbed almost the entire kit now. So when people ask me what kind of turbo kit do I have, I will say now "BigDog Turbo kit"

No problem Kevin. Hope to drive this bish tonight. Ive been halted with a few issues but solved them. Now got one issue where the IC piping leaving the turbo going into the FMIC is not bent correctly from my mandrel shop. So Im going to have to cut it in half and twist the angle on one side and reweld it. Yeap I will be doing all of that, since Ive been doing it on all of this already. Amazing how a bit of welding knowledge can take you so far in this kit re-build.

Also got a Wilwood Big Brake kit coming in tomorrow that needs to be installed as well as waiting on the Carbon Fiber hood. Car has been down for over 1month, im starting to miss driving it, the crotchrocket is alright, but hard to haul azz on that in the rain and hear the radio

Kev I gotta ask you some questions about your 5spd conversion, yea.... i know, i know, i said I would never do it. But looks like I will. Should I email you or are you too taxxed with all the other emails already?

Good luck with the fix. The car's been down for a while and I bet you can't wait to start it up and take it out on a spin to hear that BOV. We'll see you soon in those ATL videos.

Either drop me a PM or email, it doesn't matter. I'm a bit behind on both, but I'll get to your questions within a reasonable amount of time.
