something is wrong with my timing chain in my car.
this should be covered by the powertrain warranty for i only have 40k on it.

I called a nissan service place nearby annonymously and they said if i had ANY aftermarket products on my car that the warranty is void.

All i have is springs/shocks, 18 rims, custom cleared tails, and some stereo work. ONLY cosmetic mods. no engine work.

are some places more strict then others?

please share your experience. i'm dying here. thanks!

He is lying to you. Federal law states that they have to PROVE that the mods caused the problem. You would probably get a lot of grief from them if you had modded the engine, but you shouldn't get any crap from them for struts and wheels.

First off, ALWAYS be nice. If the service writer gives you any $hit, politely ask to see the service manager. If he's a butthead, politely ask to see the owner; and if he gives you crap, see you local factory rep.

At each step of the way, ask for a WRITTEN statement of denial. If they want to know why you want it in writing, tell them that your lawyer said to get documentation. It's amazing how quickly they change their tune when they have to sign something.

The service place you called is WRONG. They can only refuse warranty work if the aftermarket part can be blamed for the problem. In your case, it's crystal clear -- there's no way what you've done to the car has affected the timing chain. Call the place you bought the car. Ask to speak to the service manager, I'll be surprised if they push it, especially given that you've not done any engine mods at all. I would get your car serviced regularly at the same place and built a rapport with the service manager. It's worked for me pretty well.

If they still give you trouble, try another dealer. If still trouble, call Nissan NA Customer Care.

best,
/aac
