We just got the Pivot shift indicator light kit from Japan due to high request from the Impreza club. This kit just plugs into the cigarette lighter. You can program the rpm setting to your desired setting. If you have any questions you can email me. You can order at http://www.autoimaging.com or 952-842-9131. Ask for Dave(me) or Shawn.

The kit is intended for the manual trannys, it lights up before the redline so you don't over-rev the engine. You can still use it in the Auto, if you're manually shifting.

Has anyone purchased one of these shift lights? Does it work?

...does your tachs not work? shift at 6300rpm and you'll be fine. If you're drag racing.... you really don't need to look out the front windshield...just glance down when the engine gets louder and watch the tach.

Waste of Money. WoM!

Thanks SCCA Solo2. But sometimes I like to wind up my engine on freeway onramps. Paying attention to the tach when I'm doing that just doesn't sit right with me. And while I certainly appreciate your comments, they simply don't answer my questions.

So just for laughs and giggles, let's see if I can get a response from someone who actually has hands-on experience with the product.

Ummm, I think Maxima has a redline limter. it won't allow you to rev to redline!

my tach works however......

Without my shift light I would have never known it was 600-700rpm off. I mean it is set for 7000rpm, when it turns on my tach shows 7600-7700rpm. Its kinda funny when I can rev to 8000rpm on the tach, but the ECU has a 7500rpm rev limiter.

I don't understand how it works if it's plugged into the lighter. Does it still plug into the ECU? You be best served getting Turbohawk's shift light for a mere $40. I love mine.

What MANY guys forget is that the 4th gen VQ runs out of steam 5800rpms. Winding out the 4th gen VQ to 6500 rpms in any gear except 1st is completely worthless. The best shift points for the 1/4 track are as follows:

1-2 6500
2-3 6200
3-4 6000

The stock tach is off by about 200 rpms. I use to leave my car in 3rd finishing the 1/4 mile, but shifting to 4th results in low 14.7s@94 vs leaving in 3rd and getting high 14.8s and 14.9s@93.

A shiftlight is very nice because I never have to watch the tach except for 1st gear.
