...actually I think he was a security guard but you can imagine my surprise when I looked over and saw the blue shirt with shoulder patch was about the same. He was also pretty clean cut and quite a large fellow, considering he was driving an Escort GT. It didn't look modified but it moved pretty well at speed. Weight really is the enemy.

Since I can't seem to buy a race around here, I'll dance with anyone who wants to give it a go. Funny thing was I never noticed him until he started to pass me. I could tell by the sound of his revs and the way the car would squat down after a shift that he was really pedaling as hard as he could.

We had several runs on and off for a few miles. Of course, he never had a chance but he sure was trying...up to over 100mph at some points. I even let him build some momentum from way behind me and waited until he was close before I shut him down. I really need Don's VB upgrade!

This was the same road that I raced the friendly Mustang GT a few months back. So when we both got caught side by side at a red light, I looked over and waved but he never even looked over. Oh well. Maybe he wasn't really racing and was just one of those 'angry at the world' types.

I finally just let him go by since he was relentless in trying to pass me. We also got to a point in the road where police are more common and I prefer to have a car or two in front of me. Several miles up the road he began to slow down so I moved to the left and began to pass. He quickly matched my speed even though he had to brake hard to get off at the next exit. I guess he had something to prove today. I don't really think he proved it.

Before I got my Max in December, I had a 92 Escort GT... It was a really nice car with the 127HP Mazda engine in it and could move off the line if you really wanted it too. I had a lot of fun in it before I traded it in for a V6. It was also a very light car (as you noted), and had a reasonable horsepower to weight ratio (almost comparable to cars like Mits Eclipse that I kept racing around town).

I raced a real cop about 10 years ago on my ricerocket motorcycle. I was at a light on a highway and this guy in a sedan pulls up next to me. He stares me down and he's edging forward so I thought he wanted to race. The light changes and I do a burnout and pull the front wheel off the ground a little and am gone. He accelerated pretty quickly too. No contest, needless to say. I pull into a gas station a mile down the road and he pulls in. He motions me over and I thought he wanted directions or something. Surprise! He's an off duty detective on his way home from work and he's holding up his badge. What an idiot I was. He was pretty cool about it and only gave me a ticket for not having my motorcycle license with me. I only had a permit for a bike and you need another rider for it to be valid. Well at least it makes for a good story. How many people can say they drag raced a cop and got away with a $30 ticket?

I used to work at a gas station where the intersection had merging lanes each way you go, there was a race pretty much every red light there (many accidents too). Once I saw a cop and a Porshe get it on, Porsche smoked him, but then slew down to let the cop pass, they must off been buddies, cause they hit about 80 in a 35 zone.

I was in a car that raced a cop.
My friend was an inter for the local police station and one night we pulled next to an officer that he new. So the cop started to rev his engine and when the light turned green we were off. Well, needless to say we got SPANKED. My friend's Ford taurus just couldn't keep up...but it was still fun.

Hehehe, that would be cool, I pass exit 33 around 3:40pm Tues, Thurs, & Fri...including today. Your car would be easy to spot on the shoulder...just don't pull in front of me! Name the day and I'll look for you!

Or friends with badges, or both.

Last summer I was poking along in a 40-mph zone on a 4-lane divided highway in the curb lane when I noticed I was being slowly overtaken by a police car in the left lane. He drew even with me as we approached a SHARP (10-mph) curve to the left, at which point he gunned it to pass me on the inside.

I followed suit immediately, gunning my car to keep perfect pace with the cruiser as we rounded the curve. And my tires obliged without so much as a squeak. :-)

Apparently assuming he had left me well behind in his wake, the cop began to drift into my lane without so much as a look nor a signal, forcing me to tap my brakes. Only then did the policeman seem to realize I was still next to his cruiser in the right lane. With an obvious look of shock & surprise, he swerved HARD back into the left lane. He must have been embarrassed/pi$$ed at that point, as he sped away at *very* high-speed, leaving me poking along with a SMILE on my face and a SONG in my heart! Tisk, tisk, tisk...
