What do you think happened from a rolling start like 5mph. Well I will tell you. I was impressed. Dead even through 70 mph but that SOB outbraked me at the next light. I had to start braking first and thats the only way I saw what it was. Just said GTI on back. Light turned green as I slowed to like 40 and we both punched it again. My auto only went down to 2nd and up to 70 again pretty much even. Those things stop quick though....If I waited as long as him to brake I would have been in the intersection. I aasume they have 1.8T motor but what do they run 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Thanks.

Do you live in CT?

My friend told me a story about how he took out a 4th gen auto with his 1.8T 5 speed Golf.

VWs are quick. The Golf V6 will give you your best run because it's light, but the Jettas and Passats hold their own as well. My best race was with a modded Jetta from 0-110. I've never raced into 4th gear before, and I was only 1 car length ahead. One Fast SOB...

No wasn't in CT, was in SW Fla. My guess is with a dead stop start if I had powerbraked I would have gotten a jump and won rather than tied. Those things dont have much torque do they.....not till the turbo spools a bit. They don't get boost for at least a second or two...do they?

If they launch from a decent rpm then their turbo will already be spooled up. I suppose if they are auto they can also torque break to get the turbo spooled up. In general cars that come w/ stock turbos don't experience too much lag. Usually boost comes by 3000rpm or less.

Did you ever see a REALLY JUICED UP mid 80's GTI around Waterburry, just off of 84? Maybe about two or three years ago?
