Dental Floss works well.
Clean up the residue with WD-40 then polish the area.

On a warm day or with a hairdryer (be VERY careful not to apply too much heat to paint) take dental floss and carefully slide it down between the emblem and the paint. Make sure you put pressure more towards the emblem when sliding it down so that it doesnt scratch the paint. Afterwards, i just used some GOO GONE to remove the sticky stuff. After a few coats of goo gone , you should be set.

The search function is your friend. Any questions you have, try the search and if the results don't answer your question, try posting then. Good luck. The shaved look rocks.

Slightly off-topic, but those self checkout thingies are pretty neat! We had them here at Super K-mart, but it didn't catch on too well and they took em away.

To get the outline or film/ whatever else is left on the paint from where the emblems were, use scratch remover (polish basically) I used mothers scratch remover on the outline and it totally got rid of every last trace. I wouldn't be able to find where the emblems were if I tried. Even when I shine a bright light at my trunk lid when its dark out you can't see any differences in the reflection. Use a couple coats just to be sure, then go over the area with some wax.

[rant]

have your tried using the #$@# search!??!?!! this $hit doesn't work 5 times out of 6 (I tested it). when it does work, it's good, but you susually have to do do 2-3 searches to find anythin useful.

next time you flame someone for not using the search, maybe you should think of the fact that this board has some major bandwidth and server issues.

[/rant]

in fact, I just tried to post this and I had to wait 5 mins before it would let me post...

I bought the "Bug 'n Tar Remover" in a spray can from Wal-mart and it didn't help much, just made the glue unsticky I'm going to try and take it off now, but if it doesn't work I'll go buy that remover. My car looks wierd with MAXIMA lettered in glue

You can use a hairdryer and then GooGone.

The GooGone can be bought in a dollar store I think.

There is some emblem adhesive that you can use to put it back on some where (like on the dash board in front of the passenger seat) http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=emb...t&cop=mss&tab=

Would this technique also apply to removing aftermarket wood trim?

I bought my max with some sun damaged wood trim and I want it gone.

Make sure you get 3M brand. I had duck brand and it didn't last too long. Now I'm using 3M exterior mounting tape.

I'd say maximilia revived it so he could get over the 15 post minimum. I would not recommend using WD-40 on the paint.

^^ i agree, that will eat at the wax on your car. Hair dryer and some floss should work fine. Tar remover is good for the glue, but test it out on a small area to make sure it wont damage your paint.

I know it's wrong to revive this thread again, but I think I might do it anyway. Does the current condition of your paint pretty much determine the amount of presence of the shadow effect? Or is it possible with the polish to make the shadow completely disappear? My paint is not bad, it's just as old as the car. I am hesitant to remove the emblem and have an unfixable cosmetic problem.
