strut/shock dust boots bumpstops

do I really need new strut boots with my new struts? why do people change those? I've searched this. it seems more like formality when changing out struts now. Also, I can't seem to find just the boots for sale online. I find kyb strut mounts at tirerack and discount tire online.

what about the recent talk about how oem se mounts were really good? I'm not sure what I should get if I need to get anything.

Get the KYB dust boots with integrated bump stops (gives the suspension more travel) from taylorautomotive.com part # sb103 and sb108 (2 of each.) They are definatly worth the 50 or so dollars.

The reason you change the boots with the struts is because the OEM dust covers fall apart rather quickly. Once that happens, contamination gets onto the poston and can cause premature faillure of the strut.

The dust covers protect your strut/shocks from contamination and help them live a long healthy life.

I would highly recommen the KYB dustboots. The help with not bottoming out and keeping the strut from of any contaminants that can shorten the life of yor strut.

I'm convinced. i'm going to change em when I get the new struts. Thanks yall. Modding gets so expensive, and everybody does everything. I just try to spend money on the things that are truly worth it.

don't waste your money on new dust boots. I would just buy some koni bump stops - where you live you don't need boots.

Sound like you were already convinced you were going to replace the boots before you even posted this thread, you just needed a place to buy them. Just by looking at a strut boot that's install you can figure out why it's there, no brainer. Do you "have" to replace them, no. Is it a "preventive maintenance" kinda thing, yes.

Actually, I was wanting to use old ones. But considering the cost of strust, it's probably worth making sure they do well. This stuff is starting to get expensive.

I did a little search and many people seem to reuse the stock ones with bump stop trimmed.

On the side note, I will be installing GC/AGX combo that I bought from PoLo this weekend. Correct me if I'm wrong. It seems that I cannot put any kind of dust boots on my struts since GC springs are very narrow and won't accomodate dust boots. Am I wrong on this? Or KYB dust boots will fit right in?
