upper oil pan leak

Have any of you had an upper oil pan leak ? I have a 98 with about 66,000 miles on it, the shop said it is all labor but they want $400.00 !
does this sound right ? He said the stuff they use to seal it with is supposed to last forever, but.... any help would be appreciated, Thanks,

Frank

on 3rd gens, it's really common to see the oil pan leaking around the arcs on the ends where the crank sticks out. Nissan just puts a rubber gasket in there and doesn't use sealant of any sort. the little gaskets are about $15 each too, so it costs you $30 plus another $5 for a tube of RTV just to pull the oil pan!

I fixed on the other day by just cleaning everything I could around that spot with a stiff brush and brake cleaner, then slathering black RTV all over the gasket area. shouldn't leak again for a while, but it's basically like putting a dam in front of the Nile. sooner or later, it's gonna go out and you'll have an even bigger mess.
