4th, 5th?!? i just dont know!!!

hey you guys!

first i would like to apologize if my question has been asked before, but i tried searching and it didnt work!

anyway, my question is this:

i just sold my max! it was an 89 SE with 160k miles and i managed to get 3k for it, (with a salvage title!!) its crazy i know, but it was in perf cond!

so im looking for a new car now and i want a max! im thinking either a 4th gen (97 & up) or a 5th gen.
and im going to get it off a dealer auction. (my buddy is a dealer so he has access) im willing to spend up to 10k but dont really want to spend that much.
now i love both the 4th and 5th gen look, and i think they both have the same engine up untile 2001 right?

so i dunno, maby you guys can help me choose which is the better car, and whats the specs on both.
and also should i get the SE? what would be the difference? only the trans and a spoiler?? (how is the sports trans compare to regular trans on these models??)

p.s.
buying the car on friday so quick answers are best!

thanx ya'all!

5th gen. Has alittle more power, and a better intake manifold, not to mention it comes with a Variable Intake. Gauges are better too

Test drive them and find one you like.

4th - easier to boost, more mods available, and my favorite.

well if you want power get a 2k2 max
i have a 2k and the 4th gens i think are faster...
but thats if you want power...
i personal think the inside of the 5th gen is much nicer then the 4th gen...IMO
its up to you what you want...

get a 4th gen and if u are into power, supercharge it or turbo it. You can get a 4th gen 97 with descent mileage for maybe around 7-8k and for an extra 2-3 grand supercharge it and be faster than any stock maxima. That will also be around your budget or a few hundred past it.

sounds like a pretty accurate price from a dealer. my 2k max wasn't too much less than that, but it only had 34k miles on it, and not as many features as the one you're talking about. test drive it first, and if you like it, enjoy.

If you can get a 02 or 03 5th, otherwise get a 4th.

i would get a 99 max or a 2003 max.

the 2000 max is not worth much and is the reason why the 4th gens are coming down in price so fast.

if you want to save some money than get a 97 max with low miles on it.

good luck, Freddie

you said you want to only spend like 10k, so itll be hard to find a fully loaded 2k for that cheap...

id say go with the 4th gen, because it is a bit more modable

yeah, also like 97GLES said, there definitly going down in price, so you can get one cheap, then get started on mods right away with the extra money

I went from a 4th Gen (99) to a 5th Gen (2002). No regrets.
