Well, I thought my '95 SE was leaking oil, at least something, but it turns out I have a transmission leak. The leak is on the bottom of the transmission where the two sides are sealed together. Has anyone else had the problem before with the VQ? The previous owner had the tranny rebuilt, but it's acting up for me now. Will they have to replace that the whole bottom piece, or can that be sealed? How much $$$ should I have to plan on spending? Later, Steve

Hope this helps

You could do it yourself they probably put the gasket in and tightended the bolts too hard that would create small arches between the bolts and the gasket can't expand enough to compensate. Try that gasket in a tube stuff it worked for me, you just put it all around and it turn's into rubber.

Just like the power brake check valves were defective, if you have a 5-speed, this defect is the reverse lamp o-ring. I bet lots of trannys are leaking but the owners don't notice because you don't expect a 2-3 year old car to be leaking fluids. I think it's subject to debate but my dealer said this one is not covered past 36K, but since I reported it first around 30 even though it wasn't until 38K that they fixed it properly (3 tries) they covered it. I would never have noticed it but I happened to crawl under the car and say what the **** there was oil clinging to the case and a tiny drop on the pavement. Gear oil is very heavy, like 90W so it's not gonna be all over the place. So because mine was warranty I'm not sure how much it would cost, only .4 hour labor though.
