Turned on my lights to go out tonight and my friend tells me my headlight was smoking. Pulled out the light and it looked all melted. I think my headlight housing is permenantly messed up. Got em from Freddie so hopefully it won't be to much of a problem.

Made sure to handle them with a microfiber towel when I reinstalled them after inspection. Also would seem strange that it would happen a week or so later. I'm stumped.

They're Hanabi 8000k's, they've been awesome up until then. Hopefully it isn't common, which is why I'm asking. Maybe I just got a dud bulb. I was having trouble in the beginning with one flicking off and on and then it seemed to be fine. Maybe that bulb was doomed from the start.

i have hanabi 6k which one side flickers a little but i think its my installation. I never seen that happened. It cant be your install cause it happened so much later. Did anything special happen to your car recently? water getting in somewhere etc.? never heard of that happening from nowhere.

I guess this is why people on HIDforum tell everyone to stay away from these inferior kits. When I had Hanabis, I never had that problem.

Thats your call man, Hanabi "IS" actually better then some of the other brand just not the best IMO.

What I consider "good ****" is brands like Phillips/Ultinon, Osram, Catz, Hella, Bosch & Valeo projectors.

I think Hanabi is crap, and it took me 2 kits tor realize that. My first one, one of the ballast went bad, and caused the bulb to turn green. The second kit, one of the bulbs went with the starter. So now, I'm going to get some dual projectors going, with a reliable HID kit.

^ Ok, what is the absolute best plug and play HID kit on the market? (Still available.. since the Catz is no longer sold apparently) I want something very reliable and not too colorful. It seems like a rebased phillips bulb + panasonic ballasts are very good, but I'm having a hard time finding a kit.

The hanabis s*ck. I just bought a used set off of another member and first the starter blew so I went and got a new starter. Now that i got a new starter the ballast is no good. Turns out the ballast messed up the starter. Now I gotta buy a new starter and its gonna cost me almost 90$. I dont know if its worth the money. I have the 5500 kit.

If you have some patience to do a project...and like projectors. You can still get Valeo projectors, with Phillips 4300K bulbs and hella ballasts That combo looks sweet IMO but its not something for a novice to attempet. You have to hack apart your headlights The only thing about the 4th gens is the glare issue, the headlights are designed in such a way thats just spits light all over.

You can get Phillips kits from Ebay as well

What you DO NOT want is a beam that looks like these...

One
This 1 is great, LOL
Here is another disaster
Now THIS is just weird...HID shades...

wow those beam patterns suck.. its not like that in my max...

looks like you may have bent the metal piece of the bulb after the inspection, maybe by accident, you never know.. if it was working before the inspection then i say its probably accidental.i am going on 4 months and i use it every day when i drive at night.

you do understand what a "cutoff" is right?

there should be a very distinct line where the light stops. show me if see that line in your kit.

In our housings, there will never be a cutoff like that unless you cover part of the lense. The best we can do is reduce the glare. On my Catz Hi/Lo kit, the bolbs come with sheilds that reduce glare and focus the beam rather than release tons of glare.
