For those who need help choosing a suspension

I just got around to creating another page. This one might be very helpful for those choosing a suspension that suits them well.

http://maxmods.dyndns.org/?SuspensionSelection

Comments? Improvements? Suggestions?

What do you mean GR2's are the cheapest way?

I though these were good. You are telling me that it is not a good idea to match GR2's with Teins?

there are more than a few on the org that have that set up and no complaints.

So the best springs for the GR2's are the H&R's?

That sucks, I was going order Teins & install this stuff before the end of the year, now I am confused.

Anyone out there with more than 10,000 miles can you tell us how the ride is performing ?

thanks...

2k2MerlotSE:

This was discussed before in an previous thread, where one member swapped out his GR-2s for Tokico Illuminas and learned that his GR-2s were going soft on him (aka worn out) Unfortunately I can't search and find it for you. But the general consensus was that GR-2s will get soft over time when used with aftermarket springs.

slammed95:

This debate goes all the way back to what I learned at Road Race Engineering in Sante Fe Springs, CA while talking to their head mechanic Jon (who is also a seasoned veteran at Willow Springs and Buttonwillow) who installs parts and tunes cars for road race. Speaking of which, my brother got his FLT-A2s installed and setup there. A quote from Jon: "if you come to our shop and ask us for a specific inch drop to go with our road race suspension tuning, we will kindly refer you away because this isn't the place for you" A tuned car needs to have enough suspension travel (travel including "to the bumpstop" travel AND "physical suspension limit" travel) for cornering at near 1G without reaching either of those limits, or else you're just riding on your suspension limit which is very bad for handling.

2kprlmax:

Actually a lot of information can be applied all around, the spring's stiffness between generations generally matches up pretty well. Also why did I put in the JIC FLT-A1us coilovers in the article if they are only currently avaliable for the 5th gen?

metallic97gxe:

Thanks

djfrestyl:

I just changed the "Progress" to "Progress/Cattman" that should clear things up. There is a lot of info on 5th gen stuff in there, the general knowledge can be applied to whatever car you are looking for a suspension for. Also many of the suspensions are very similar from the 4th and 5th gen, so a lot of what is stated applies all around.

Very good writeups. You might want to add Tein coilvers for the 5th gens - prob equal to the JIC non adjustable ones. As far as the roadracing and such - one reason they never bottom out is often their sky high spring rates. I've seen Civics with 800lbs+ and other vehicles with even more than that.

How about writeups on bushings (besides FASB) and the RSTB when you get time?

I'm not partial to the Tiens because they don't have a shock height collar which lets you adjust height independantly of spring collar adjustment. I just feel that this setting is very essential. I'd think everyone would be MUCH MUCH better off getting the JIC FLT-A1us coilovers than the tiens and for less money. Damn, if only they made them for 4th Gens, I'd buy them in a second. Check out their specs:

The RSTB is here:

I just don't mention them because I don't really feel that they really do much.

There's other bushings besides the front sway bar ones? You mean the polyurathane bushing kits for the whole front suspension?
