PROPS to Maxima.org member (I'm a VW owner)

This is my first post on Maxima.org (and probably will be my last).

I don’t even own a Maxima. I just thought I’d sign up and post a big shout out of “THANKS” to one of your members, “Ferbs02SMMax” for going out of his way to help a fellow import tuning enthusiast.

About 3 weekends ago, I drove my girl to work, and on my way home, my car died and I couldn’t restart it. (I drive a 2000 VW New Beetle with an upgraded turbo, wet N20 kit, and MANY other mods, LSD, clutch, chip, intake, etc..etc..etc.. My last 1/4 mile run produced mid 14s, but now that I have the turbo upgrade and am tuning in the N20, I’m hoping for low 13s and *maybe* high 12s…. IN A BEETLE )

ANYWAYS, my car had been sitting for a while before that day and I know it needed some more air/fuel and other tuning, so I knew it was risky to drive it. I drove it anyways and it crapped out on me due to bad vacuum lines and a starter that needed better oil viscosity to turn the motor over once it died.

Anyways, it crapped out on a very busy street in Chicago where I live, and just as I was beginning to think I’ll be pushing my car alone to the curb and walking back home leaving my baby in a less than desirable spot, Maxima.org member Ferbs02SMMax pulls up, stops and says he noticed I’m a car enthusiast by my CF hood and rims and wanted to see if he could help me out! I was flabbergasted that in Chicago, there’s still some people with decent character! Don’t get me wrong, I love Chicago, I’m from Chicago, I’m just so used to most people honking and flipping you off if you break down! Heh! Anyways, he spent the next 40 minutes driving me around (in his nice comfy Maxima) to parts stores so I could get what I needed to get up and running again. We chatted about our experiences at the local drag strip and shared a few funny stories about local ricer wannabes. Heh!

(By the way, I threw him a $20 bill to thank him for going out of his way to help a random stranger with a busted VDub.)

So I just thought I’d jump on your forums to say thanks to that dude and say that Maxima folks are good people! I was in a really bad spot and Ferbs’ really did save the day.
Much respect!

Jimmy, if you see this, it was my pleasure bro. It was a lazy weekend morning, and I was grocery shopping, so I had time to kill, and you were in a jam. You are a fellow enthusiast, so I didn't think twice about it. I hope if I ever got in a jam, someone would help me out, its all about the golden rule. Chicago is my home, and I too am surprised sometimes, but there are nice ppl still left out there.

I enjoyed the drive to and from the parts store, the look on your face when twice I hit it hard from a dig and then from a roll said it all, you are a car nut just like all of us. You seem surprised when I told you how quick the Auto VQ35's were, and how much quicker our Stick brethren are. Besides, I knew you were a straight shooter when you quickly spotted the race sticker on the windshield, I tried to scrape it off last time I went to the track, but there were still remnants. I wish I had the time slips still in the car, I coulda showed you my baby's times

Glad you liked my car man, kudos on yours. Mid 14's at 98 mph for your Turbo Beetle is an extremely nice place to start the real modding. I hope the V Dub is running good bro, don't let it fall to disrepair though, its too nice a ride. Its almost a given I will see you during the Spring time, at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI, when it opens again, and until then, take care and be safe.

Us Maxima guys know how to take care of ppl.

Fernando.

Man I drive tow truck and work for authorized highway tow. You wont believe the amount of cursing I hear when I'm hooking up a car and trying to clear up the highway to get things moving. People just wanna curse, it makes them feel better. I know I feel a little better after I curse.

…TheBattleBug…”Schwasti-Car”

Heh! A funny thing happened when I was getting my vinyl German flag racing stripes put on
by my local vinyl shop, the dude printed and cut the vinyl, then he looked outside and
saw that they were going on my Beetle. He then was like.. “Whoa! German flags on the
side of THAT car?! You may as well install a big spike in the middle of the roof so it looks
like a rolling German war helmet! Or should I also make up a windshield banner that
says “Schwasti-car”?!?” heh! He had my friends and I rollin.

Great props.

Car clubs used to do this sort of thing all the time, to improve their rep.

Help a stranded motorist, leave them your card, and maybe they will change their mind about those "punk kids".

Great job Ferbs02SMMax
