?'s on drifting a Maxima

How hard is it to drift a Maxima? A friend of mine invited me to go with him and his friends to a track out in Palm Springs. I know that being FWD isn't going to help, neither is having an auto. But does anyone have any ideas on how to throw a Maxima sideways?

I really wouldnt reccomend it on dry surfaces, If you really want to, use the ebrake at higher speeds, that will help, but you wont be able to carry a long drift at all. If you live near snow, well then find a big parking lot covered in snow/ice and have fun, with hardly any friction you're less prone to damage anything, plus you can do plenty of long drifts.

You can drift it from the front for about as long as it takes to slam in to something. Oh wait, that is not drifting it is called understeer like a ****.

Pretty damn hard without a tight suspension (to reduce the bodyroll of a heavy Max) and a huge rear swaybar (to counter the moderate understeer of a nose-heavy Max).

you could turn the motor the motor the right way and make it power the rear wheels. then you could drift all the time

Buy an old impala or Monte. Run her at your local 1/4 mile dirt or clay track.
Then post "exactly when are you not drifting"

You can drift a Maxima, but not like the ricer's do it. On the track, I was able to get my car into a four wheel drift a couple of times.

Having grippy front tires, non grippy rear tires, soft front springs, stiff rear springs, and an RSB set as aggressive as possible could make the max drift. I have drifted unintentionally around entire corners of a road course (i've got one on video actually, its pretty wild) at like probably 30* to the racing line when I was out at the road course last with bald rear tires. It will never drift like a RWD car but you can get the back end out very significantly. The difference is that in the drift cars they do it under power, in the max you do it only under deceleration and through a corner, as soon as you hit the gas you end the drift.

Thank for the input. I know the Maxima isn't for this type of driving but I figure, why not have fun until I buy a S13 next year.

coil overs on the stiffest setting possible. turbo and a 5 speed. crappy tires and light weight rims. that is the only way it would be ACTUAL drifting

they dont melt to your tires. all the heat builds up on the underside of the tray, and YES it works, i got a vid of my buddy doing it (in a maxima) on my comp. the trays eventually fall of, especially if you turn too hard

I guess you can drift a Maxima by going in reverse and some creative driving.

that's not a drift. that's more like "lost control".

you can do it in the snow and rain all the time w/ ebrake, i was able to get a goo 50-60 degrees this snow storm going about 30mph, it may sopund stupid but once you get the hang of it, its very controllable. also i was driving at about 100mph and took a slight turn, i felt the tail slide just a bit, scary as all hell, thats what made me try it again

Um yeah. Nice thread. Considering you have to be on the gas to drift and not SLIDE, forget it in a fwd car/maxima/whatever.
