Mom totaled my max....

Well, kinda.

My old 97 GXE, which I sold to her when I got my current car.

more pics

She rear-ended someone at about 25mph or so. Thankfully everyone involved is just fine.

The guy at the wrecker's let me in the impound to take a look at it. Couldn't get the hood open as the latch and front of the hood was driven down and wouldn't release. However, there was no leaking fluid after the accident, so I assume the radiator is ok, as is the engine tranny. Frame doesn't seemed crooked (all doors, trunk are fine as is their spacing), but I'm sure the front is mangled.

'Cause the airbags went off I'm sure the insurance company will total it. Damage looks to be in the $2500-$3000 range not taking the airbags into account. They will put it WAY over half the value of the car (about $7k). Depending on what the insurance comany wants for it, I may buy the car to part out.

This car was bad luck...I had two bad ($$$ wise...no injuries) accidents in it, and this makes three:

wreck 1
wreck 2

Was a kick-*** car...

On the bright side...I sold it to her for about $3k under book, which is about the minimum that she'll make off the deal. So, time for a new car.

The problem will be finding a Neptune Blue 5sp in the area.

ouchie.

yeah, that's going to be totalled.. I had less damage on mine when it was valued at 8k and it was very close to being totalled.

that's at LEAST a $5k dent.......

hood, both fenders, bumper & supports, core support, AC condensor, headlight (probably both since I'll bet the case is cracked on the one that didn't get the lense shattered), and frame IS bent-I can tell by looking, both airbags, radiator is bent and will start leaking soon if it hasn't already (just because there's no drips doesn't mean it's not cracked. mine was)...

I could go on, but I think you get the point- it's dead.

Nice color too!

But the important thing is nobody was hurt. just make sure the insurance knows you too immaculate care of the car and it should help on the valuation to get a few more $ out of it from the ins.

Yeah, I figure about $3500-$4000 _before_ the airbags even come into play.

Sucks about the accident, Good Luck.

The last person I could ever see totalling my car, if she even drove it would be my mom. It's a good reminder that everyone is prone to risk.

What a shame, at least your ma's alright. Look at it this way, your Max is a total, the front clip is mangled, but your donor 4th gen will provide other 4th gens with 4 good door assembly, including interior trim panels, two 1/4 panels, a trunk lid, a rear cover and reinforcement, four wheels, a good engine and trans. This Maxima will sit at a boneyard for a very short time.

Yeah, my ma refuses to drive my car, she'll only drive my pop's truck. She seems to think my pop's Tacoma 4x4 is safer than the Max, but she does drive slow as a snail, so she never takes a corner fast or anything.

Sorry about the loss.

Glad to hear your mum came out of it fine

I sometimes lend my car to my mum, but she's usually fairly cautious nowdays after she just about wrote my parents old Skyline off after hitting a fallen tree .

honestly ejj, i think its going to be totalled. the front damage looks gruesome, and i really think some stuff under the hood is messed up. No fluid leaks does not mean it's fine. After my car accident, there was minimal front end damage, no leaks, but the engine block had a fat dent in it. The wrecker guy started it to get it on the trunk... i just about cried. The damage may be more than you can percieve. just stick with it man

Nah, I could clearly see (although not picture) that even the radiator didn't get to the engine block. I'm sure the engine & tranny are fine.

However, like you said, I'm sure it will be totaled.

It was _her_ car that she totaled. It just used to be mine.

As far as parting it out, I should know what the insurance co. wants in a few days. I figure I could sell the following:

- Engine /105k miles
- 5sp swap kit (including tranny)
- Tail lights
- ECM

So...depending on what they want for it...it may or may not be worth it.

No, this was the night before the snow fell.

She hasn't really though about what she's going to get next. Not even set on a Max...although I have a feeling that a 5sp is a must in whatever car she gets.

Buy the car back and buy all used parts. You can get airbags off ebay fairly cheap. Could make out decent here

My car isnt called that. She's simply called "the maxima." My mom hates it because of the automatic shoulder belts, she doesnt like the way it drives (she's out of her mind) and likes her Camry better

no,no....not a human body part. It's the use of the word to call somebody totally crazy. ex:"he's a real nutbag, all he does is babble about Maximas 24/7" I guess everybody has their mind in their pants right now. believe me, I'd like to edit my board name so it shows up as nutbag and not two seperate words, but no can do with the way the boards are set up.

No.

I bought the 97 GXE (the totaled one) around march of 2000. December of 2001 I bought my 99 SE. February 2002 I sold the 97 GXE to my mom for dirt cheap.

It was my car, but its currently hers, and she pays for it. I didn't drive it anymore (unless something was wrong with it and I was fixing it).

Matt, I seriously doubt that frame is bent. I have seen worse Maximas than that and still no frame damage. I just had a friend look at it that owns a body shop here and he said the car is totalled, but no frame damage is apparent.
