shorten the auto shifter?

hey i have a 97' and i was wondering if there was any way to easily shorten the shifter **** so i can put a cd player in that cubbie behind it and still be able to eject cd's easily. also if anyone reads this that has a t.v. where the stock bose cd player was what size did you get cuz i measured it and most 7in are too big and 5.6" just seems too small and theres not a big variety of 6"ones. and also what brand if ya don't mind me askin...thanks

Well, since I only have a "lowly" 3rd gen, I can only advise from MY personal experience.

You should be able to just saw some of the shifter down with a decent hacksaw/Sawzall. Shouldn't be that hard. The actual shift **** itself will unscrew with Allen screws, IINM. I'd have to dig that up. But I'm sure the 4th gen FAQ's might point you in the right direction.

As for TV's, I've got a Pyle 7in in my dash. But mine is retractable, like the Alpine CVA-1005 (which I owned before this), so I really can't say much about having JUST the screen inbedded into the dash.

Again, might wanna check around for THAT, as well. I think Jason (thebigsadler) or Tony (arrafio) might be able to help out, in that regard.

Good luck!

Well, regardless of what I've heard in the past about Pyle (I've heard people refer to them as Pyles of s***), this is superior in just about every way from my Alpine. The picture quality is much clearer. I'd like to say it's because the Alpine was a 6" screen and my Pyle is a 7". But it's much more.

And $200 wouldn't be that cheap to spend on a 5.5 or 6 inch screen. I guess it depends on the manufacturer and whether you were looking at getting just the screen to go in the entire DIN slot, or just a retractable one.

Check out the group deals page for the microvision 7" screen. It fits perfect and looks great. Also it is now less than 200$. Get it from redmax, he is a great seller!
