Emissions

My smog guy said my nocks are too high. What cause that? The car has WSP Y Pipe, High Flow Cat, B Pipe and Magnaflow muffler, it is a 97 5 Speed.

What he is referring to is "NOx" emissions. This is due to a faulty EGR system. You should check for an ECU code first and if not, then you will need to possibly replace the BPT Vavle and clean out the EGR system.

Its possible with your exhaust setup you are not getting any backpressure, therefore your BPT vavle will not allow the system to operate correctly. After fixing the above items and the EGR valve does not open, you will probably need to put back some stock exhaust parts.

Well he smogged me, but I had to pay him a healthy lump sum. He said that the EGR is not getting any vaccum. He started pumping vaccum in to it manually but then he said something else starting rising, I forget what, but it is basically too much raw fuel. I do have an ECU code it is the MAP/BARO sensor, I am going to have to look in to this more, anyone know if this is related to the EGR?

Well i would say that either your BPT valve failed or you have a blockage somewhere in the EGR piping. Its possible too that your EGR valve failed, but ive seen more BPTs go.

As far as the ECU code...what is the actual code number that its throwing? That would help. It could be a number of things...

I just fixed this problem on my 3rd gen! The vacuum going to the EGR valve control solenoid was bad, so I found a ported vacuum source (RPM dependent) and connected it directly to the EGR valve. Drove straight to the station and passed after failing 3 times previously!
