Hey everyone,
To give you an update, I wanted to let you know that I did test drive an 01 A4 1.8T. First of all that car is quick off the line. The AWD does the trick for the get up and go. The handling is amazing and the car is very nimble. Definitely a nice car. I am glad I test drove it because it did make me realize that the car is great when it comes to style and function. But, its too small for me, the visibility isn't great and my VE would eat it in top end. Now I remember racing a 98 1.8T a few months ago and he didnt have a chance. The Maxima rules the price range in power.

As for my VE, I will begin taking my system out and will most likely put it up for sale very soon. Friday, I was driving home from New Jersey and a spark plug got shot out of the motor, and burned up the bottom half of the coil cable and stripped the threads. I barely made it home in the 0 degree weather. That was it for me. Keeping the car is no longer a desire of mine. It would be great for someone that has time to do some work on it.

I am in the process of buying a Black 2002 Maxima 6spd from an .org member. Hopefully if all goes well, I will be picking the car up this Saturday. After driving the Audi a week ago, I checked my financial situation again and realized that the Maxima will be much more car for my money. The reliability is more trustworthy and I get to stay with the family. Here comes DaBox 3

Yo get a life, and yes it deserves a thread on what he should do. The world does not revolve around you, it revolves around other people as well. And their opinions pertaining to other facts also deserve attention and thought, so grow up and stop posting these dumb ignorant comments.

Not to be a jerk, but is seems that car is not taken care of. First off the spark plug was not tightened properly for it to fly up. My VE has 280k on it and I have had NO problems, I try my best to keep it in tip top shape. Just your standard maintenence.

The spark plug wasn't loose. I have kept them in good shape ever since I've owned the car. They are NGK's that I put in in the spring. They were tightened properly. Somehow the pressure pushed the plug out stripping all the threads (not on the plug itself). When I took the plug out, it looked as if it grounded itself too. I should have taken a picture of what happened. Don't worry, I thought that it might have gotten loose too, but later looking at it, it just got shot out.

I am probably going to sell the car. It needs struts pretty badly. I just dont see the purpose in spending the time and money in replacing them when I'm going to have a new car. I have a set of Tokico Blues in a box that I bought from DanNY in April but never put it. I was planning on selling them separately. This car would probably make a great project car. I was planning on doing many things to it, but I have already spent enought money in it. Amazingly enough, the VTCs are still working well even after 162k

I fixed the spark plug problem and its running well once again thank goodnes. Now the problem is the suspension...the front struts completely gave out. They froze in the "down" position, so now the car is sitting on the ground in the front like I dropped the car about 2.5" The alignment is completely out of wack, half turn of the wheel to the left drives the car straight.

Ed, you know if I was planning on selling the car when you were looking for a VE you would probably have it by now. I guess timing is everything. Although I would have hated for all these problems I have now be a burden on you so I see it as a good thing.

As for the Audi, sweet car, but DO NOT kid yourself into thinking it's a reliable car. If you think the Maxima is expensive to fix, just wait until something breaks on the Audi.

Dave
I love the way u think

AUDI sucks! if u get auto BEWARE it will fall out very soon and its VERY VERY Expensive to fix! And the VW is the same peace of Sh*T.

Clark, just curious, how much are you selling the rims and your system for?

I wish I had the money at least for the stereo, that sounded tight!

I wont be selling the head unit thats for sure. The new max does not have Bose, so I'm going to want to upgrade the system shortly after I get it. We'll see though.

The rims? I was thinking of keeping them for the winter, but since you ask, it might be a good idea to sell them. So many things to think about!! The car will probably be put up for sale for about $2500. That will be stock. The RSB and System have a new home.

Well here's 2 cents from a guy who always keeps his cars for 10-15 years. What you are experiencing is normal ware&tear on an older vehicle and frankly the harder you drive it the more care you'll need to put into it. But it can be done, S**t I put over 120K on my 73 Chevy Vega till I gave it to my brother-in-law when I bought my 80 Accord ohhh s**t guess I've given my age away lol. But seriously having owned several American cars and several Jap cars I think that nothing beats the Jap car reliability. This is not to say that there are exceptions on both sides. We drove an 82 Buick Regal for 14 yrs & over 200K miles but having driven my 91 Max for all this time I just went out and bought a used 2K3SE (my first "used" vehicle). I would advise you to stay away from the German cars ... they have a good rep but are very very expensive to have work done on them. A good friend of mine who owns a MB repair shop talked me out of buying a nice used 320E as he said "the fit & finish will last you a lifetime but the drive train is really no more reliable than a GM." I should only get it if I didn't mind giving him $2 - 3K a year for maintenance. His advice .... the Japs still build the most reliable cars expecially for folks who like to drive hard . But like everyone's said it's your choice man. Just MHO. Best of luck to you.

I have moved on...

I now own a 2002 Maxima SE 6spd in Super Black! I picked it up on Thursday from .org member hail7783. You can find the thread in the Maximas forsale thread.

Pictures are HERE

I couldn't be happier! I still have the VE, but plan on selling it soon. But for now, I can enjoy both my maxima's. This is now my 3rd Maxima!

I want to thank all who have read and replied to this long thread. You guys are a great influence... The new adventure begins!

yeah I need a camera... You missed a decent show yesterday. We only paid $1 for parking so it was a $10 day Disappointing that Audi, BMW and Lexus didnt show though.

As of today, car is all registered and in full effect. I can't wait until the spring so I can detail it. With all this road salt and dirt I am already feeling the pain and joy of owning a black car again.
