Are Infiniti's tuned differently?

Just by comparison of basic specifications:

HP
TQ
Gas mileage

Like, 350Z and g35....why does the g35 have a higher rated HP rating?

As for I30/35 and Maximas - are THEY the same? Just "say" if I were to get a 97-99 I30/35.....would I be just as satisfied? (compared to a Maxima)

I think the G35 has 5 less horses and is heavier. It is getting AWD so that a great advantage of the fair lady.

The I30/I35's are called Maxima's in other parts of the world (like here in New Zealand), so I would say they're simmillar enough for Nissan to be able to do that

No! if you were to get a 96-99 5spd I30 you would be much more satisfied

96-99 I30's and 95-99 maximas are the same damn cars, trust me.

Why would you spend more gas on AWD? It is not full time AWD.

the AWD version is a whopping 300lb heavier than the RWD/auto, and even when it's in full RWD mode you're still spinning extra differentials which causes additional drivetrain loss.

Well ofcourse you're going to be more satisfied, its the luxury version, just looks a little different. Pretty much all Luxury versions of japanese cars here are the JDM version. Look at lexus, the IS300 is there, the GS300/400 are there, but do you see the common camry there? Im not saying all of them are there, but most nissans are americanized, pretty much all of infiniti are the jdm and other market designs. Personally I like the luxury version, in a way, they are going to have more features and value than the base company.

just my .02

so are the A32 I30s the same mechanically as the A32 Maximas? that is, tuning-wise? can you rob parts directly from the I30's engine to bolt onto the Maxima? are the two cars geared the same? are the cams the same? etc?

Pretty much yea, the only differences I know of are the body designs and shape. The engine itself is the exact same in the 4th gen maxima, although some I30s came with LSD, so the transmission may be different, but it'd still bolt up fine to the max.

The A32 I30 and Maxima use the same engine, so yeah, anything from a Maxima will fit an I30 and vice versa . The only difference between the two is the I30 has a slightly wider body.

The same LSD came standard on some canadian maxima's, and plenty of people have swapped them in.. So, yeah..

Identical cars except for trim and body work.

for the a33 5th gens, the Anniversary edition runs the I30 ECU which has different fuel maps and part number than the regular SE/GXE/GLE 5th gens.

not much of a big difference.

The 4th gen Maxima and I30s have a different control link design IIRC.

When I was waiting for my ECU to be reprogramed I used a 98 auto maxima ECU without any problems (besides the auto tranny CEL's)

Personally, I don't give much credence to Nissan's advertised HP/TQ ratings. When you have 255hp Maximas running the same time as 240hp Altimas OR 260hp G35 sedans running only a tenth behind the 287hp Z, I have to believe there's a giant gray area with regard to the real HP putout by the VQ35DE.

Matt, I believe that the I30/I35 is called the Maxima in Aus/NZ but the Maxima QX in Germany and the Cefiro in Japan.

I think they sell the US Maxima in Korea as a Samsung SM5.

Yes, Acura's are sold as Honda's here, like the Acura MDX is sold as the Honda MDX in Australia Same for Nissan, Infiniti models are sold as Nissan's here, ie, I believe the G35 will be sold as a Nissan Skyline here, but with a V8 engine

false.

350Z has 287HP.
G35C has 280HP.

the throttle design on the G35C is more restrictive than the Z, that's why there's a 7HP difference.

i thought it was power:weight. what aspect of the throttle is different? do the cars share the same intake and cam?

i am also suspecting the diameter of the throttle body between the 350Z and the G35C. i'm guessing the 350Z throttle body is slighty bigger than the G35C. someone please confirm with me on that one.

Same here but, I think the current G35C is an updated version of the Skyline GTS. The "GTR" version of the G coupe has yet to be produced and should be good!!!

you are correct. the new GTR will debut in 2007. as far as i know from the varied press statements about it to date, they will drop the Skyline name for the sake of overseas (reads 'USA') sale and just call it the 'nissan GTR.' i will be interested in seeing how much of the concept design makes it into production.
