Really weird steering/suspension problem?
Really weird steering/suspension problem?
Currently my 2k2 max is lowered on maxspeeds and stock struts. The suspension has been fine so far, kind of harsh at times but nothing major. Anyways yesterday I was driving home and on the highway my steering wheel felt like someone was jerking it to the right once and a while. It wasn't serious where the whole care would swerve off the road anything but enough to scare me. At first I thought it was the heavy wind but then it happened once in town doing about 40...I really don't know where to start with this, at the same time my rotors I think are warped and pads need to be replaced but I don't see how that would effect this? My steering just does not feel as tight and responsive at it should feel...if anyone has any info or tips on this please let me know,
I don't think it's the springs/struts. If one was out, it would be pulling constantly. Warped rotors will definitely make you pull to a side if (and only if) you brake, see if there is a correlation between those. Could be ruts in the road, and don't eliminate the wind. Honestly I've never heard of a problem like this coming from the car.

I agree that if it were the struts it would be constant and I don't think its that...I am not sure what it is, hopefully when I do my brakes this weekend with new rotors and pads the problem will go away. It was fine all day and then on the way home today it started doing it again, and then going through town as well once again around 40-45mph...It doesn't really do it when I'm braking, its really hard to explain but basically its like driving down the road and then someone lightly tugging towards the right, but not enough to change the direction of the car...Like I said any other info would be appreciated, if not hopefully it will work out when I take the brakes apart and take a look then...
Also what could happen if I continue to drive on this? I need my car for the weekend and going away for something on Monday so the soonest I can get it to a shop is tuesday...I am not really familiar with suspensions so not complete sure what the tie rod does but have some clue...thanks again

The tie rod is your steering. The end is a ball type joint that connects the steering rod to your hub (wheel). They wear out and become loose, thus making the steering have excessive play. That play happens so gradually you really don't realize it until strange things happen, like what your describing.
Is it dangerous??? Well if the joint lets loose you will lose control of your car. But chances are it's not going to totally let loose so just get it checked out ASAP.
As far as cost goes, the tie rod end is probably around 30 bucks, say about a hour labor for a shop to install @60/hr and a front end alignment.
Grand total should be around $150 or less for the job.

I've come upon the conclusion that I think it is my power steering...reasoning for this is that it only happens when the car warms up, never happens in cold weather or driving when car is cold at first and also happens mainly when pressure is put on the steering wheel turning a certain way...
