FINALLY! Custom LED Tailights completed! *PICS*

First of all, I would like to thank Araffio for inspiring me and creating this idea of putting LED's in the taillights. My cousin and I worked on this day and night. This was one of the most major projects i have done, and im only a senior in high school .

I only put LED's on my taillights (brake and parking), dont have enough time and patience to put them in my blinkers or reverse.

We worked on this project, on and off a few days out of the week, and it took a few weeks to do so. From making designing the layout, to measuring, soldering, drilling and many other stuff, its finally completed and looks absolutely beautiful.

Ordered about 200 LED's, and used like 175 of them, with 175 resistors, and the total of this project came up to about 70-80 bucks total. I DID NOT buy extra taillights, i took the risk of using my stockers, and not being able to drive the car, thas good cuz it stayed in the garage and outta the freezin temps here in the Northeast

I went with the design of having 6 rows, row 1, 3,4,6 are parking, and row 2 and 5 are brake. The 3rd and 4th row are close together on purpose, making it seem like a thick line of LED lights...(like the new 7 series) hehe.

Here are the pics...Sorry about some of the pics that didnt show well, the LED are too bright for the camera to pick up.

That's looks sweet!! I am getting tempted to do it too. Could be a great alternative to my altezzas on my '95.

I just dont know. I mean their nice, but it just seems the way their laid out, in rows, just doesnt look right. Maybe like a circle (as in the G35C) or something. Maybe someone can come up with a different design.

I give you mad props though on the effort, i couldnt ever do something like that with my lack of patience/time and i do think they look good, i just wanna see someone come up with some more unique...

I would love to learn HOW to do this, as far as the electrical process and drilling, etc etc, would you mind doing a rough summary of how this is done? And where you can buy the parts (im sure you need more than just LEDs).

Might as well buy Gen 2 Altezza's. The thing is that the way the stock lights and housing is for the 4th gen, u can only do rows, its the way it flows. If u look at it carefully, u see lines going across, in rows. Thats just the way it is, u can do circles, but u would have to get different taillights, like altezzas, that will flow with the style of the taillight.

Doing a HOW to, or summary on this would be impossible, because it contains so much work in every process. It would be just pathetic to even write one.

As for parts, u need LEDs, resistors, and some sort of custom "circuit board" or template, to lay the LED's on that specially fit the tight spaced housing.

There are holes in the plexiglass where the LED are placed into, and stayed in place by a glue gun, each LED is hooked up to a resistor.

Yea, I am right on the Wellesley/Natick border. Us MA people are planning a meet sometime in spring. Check out the Northeastern forum.

Nice work again, by the way.

Do you have any pics of the circuitry? I'm not looking for a how-to, just a few pics of hte circuit board with the LEDs and resistors connected.

I'm trying to visualize it from the inside thats why.

Thanks All...Tony, u have one the best maximas, u definetly inspire people haha.

I got the LED's off eBay, they were 5000mcd, 3.1 volts, and other crap i didnt care about. There's no circuit board or anything. Theres just plexiglass with holes in them, and the LED are placed into the holes. Then it wired out in the back.
The resistors came with the LED, cuz i bought so many, he gave them to me free. You cant see the resistors through the lense, or anything else.

What color plexiglass?
What is the plexiglass attached to?
Were the LED's red or white?

Looks very nice and good job! Hope others in MA will get to check them out in person.

Tony will be the leader in LED customizing!

Too bad nobody tried this with the 95-96 and 5th gen yet.
