I am getting confused by all these posts. Does a resonator tip quiet down the exhaust or does it make it loud. I thought it gave it a smooth BMW like exhaust note. If so, which one is the best for a 4th Gen Maxima, and what should the inlet dimensions be on a stock 4th Gen Maxima muffler.

I've got a 3.25" rectangular resonated tip on my stock muffler. Using a resonated will require you to cut about 3" of the exiting pipe off the stock muffler to let the resonator work. My exhaust is slightly louder, but it is deeper and more uniform. It is entirely a better sound vs a non-resonated tip. You'd be amazed at how something so small could make such a big difference.

BTW, it doesn't matter which brand you use, just get a tip that's resonated.
