Something fell off of my max

Today, after parking my car, for some reason I looked under it. A pretty big metal sheet was hanging down, almost touching the ground. I took it off completely, because I didn't want it to fly off on the highway. It's almost directly underneath the drivers and passengers seat. I think its a guard for the pipes that leads to exhaust. It's a metal sheet with a bunch of holes in it, my guess would be for not overheating.
Anybody knows what it is? Is it really important, and should I get a new one put in? I'm really worried, because we have a lot of snow around. If so, how much would it cost?
Thx for any help

Sounds like a catalytic converter heat shield. It should be just fine without it.

Yep, that's the cat heat shield. Mine was dragging one day so I ripped it off. Don't worry, you don't need it.

unless you park in some tall dry grass... not that you have to worry about that for a couple of months...
