I recently had a new clutch kit installed. It came with new clutch plate, clutch disc, and release bearing. It was ordered and sent directly to a local tranny shop where my car was being repaired. After reviewing the invoice I noticed that a pilot bushing was missing. The tranny shop completed the installation anyway. Now I'm worried about what potential problems the pilot bushing may cause.
So what is the pilot bushing and could I install it myself or will I have to foot a hefty labor fee from the tranny shop. Any info would be very helpful. If it helps my ride is a 96 SE 5 speed, of course!?!

Thanks to anyone willing to help!

It's no big deal really. I've had my tranny out 2 times already. Each time I have a new pilot shaft bearing ready to install. But each time there's hardly any wear on it. The only time it receives any wear is when you press the clutch and then only for what 1 sec or so? Although it's common practice just to replace it each time becuase it's cheap to buy, I've found it not necessary 75% of the time. So don't sweat it too much if the shop didn't do it. You might call them to ask, but I doubt you will get a honest reply anyway.

Suppose I wanted to purchase it anyway...

Is this something I could possibly install on my own, or will it require dis-assembling the tranny? If it does I probably wont.

Thanks a lot Jeff!

Any other opinions???

Just looking for advice.

In order to change it, you would have to take out the tranny and dissassemble the clutch parts. It's really not worth doing. You would have to pay about $300-$400 in labor just to change it.
