i read at some site that one of the tools needed to install shocks/struts is something called a breaker bar. i'm wondering what a breaker bar is. i dont remember using any tool that i didnt know the name of when installing springs for my friend.

aka "cheater bar"... LOL

It's just a "tool" that gives you extra leverage when you need to "break" free a nut/bolt... something with a long extension to increase torque applied... <at least my defn>
A long hollow steel pipe over a socket wrench works for me!

actually, a breaker bar is technically a wrench that has a flex head, it has a longer handle to provide more leverage, if you go to sears or home depot they'll have 'em, not too expensive either

The torque wrench that you need should have a long enough handle to break anything loose. Also, for tight stuff, I use the handle from my jack. I have a hydraulic jack and the tubular handle from that makes a nice extension on my socket wrench handle.
