TIPS for taking pin striping off?

HELP.

I took half of the cars stripes off.

Other half is being much more difficult.

Also, Once the pin stripes are off...how to remove the glue?
Its on there pretty good...I can get it off with my nails but that would take about 24 hrs to do my entire car like that........

3M and i'm sure other companies makes a rubber eraser wheel. you hook it up to the drill and it can rub out the stripe and glue w/o much problem.

use goo gone or tar and bug remover for the glue left behind.

... I watched a friend use one on his car... it was pretty neat and didn't leave much behind for glue.

on the goo gone after you're done removing the stripe.

Ive also used lacquer thinner to remove adhesive from my car. It is paint friendly and works like a charm, get a lil bit on a clean cloth and wipe the adhesive off.

wouldn't that do something to the clear coat? would you need to re wax afterwards?

enh...that's a little iffy...
lacquer is strong and might damage some finishes.
rubbing alcohol and bug and tar remover is a safer bet.

As long as the paint is cured, it should not cause any damage. You would have to wax the stripe area after removal anyway. Regardless of what you use to remove the adhesive.

Do not use lacquer thinner...you'll be sorry a couple years down the road if you do.

Sorry in the sense you will see the paint faded in that area cause the clearcoat was damaged by the lacquer.

I used a plastic scrapper that was shapped like a razor blade...basiclly thats what it is. Used stoner adhesive remover.

I spent almost an entire day with my nails and goo gone. What i'd do was peel it slowly and painfully off until 1 body panel was done and then use goo-gone on it. Worked like a charm, no scratches whatsoever, but it was a pain in the ***. You could see it for almost a month after that the pinstripes were there because the paint was darker underneath, but only barely and now i think it's blended perfectly. BTW: You'll be so happy when you're done taking the gay-stipes off.

Actually, a heat guns is really effective in getting pinstripes off. It will heat the pin stripe and adhesive. Just use a back and forth motion, start at one end and work your way down. I had to put a new fender on that was same color as my car, but had a silver pin stripe on it, where my car doesn't have them. I had the entire pinstripe off in less than 5 minutes, with no residue left over.
