well anyways as I mentioned a long time ago I got caught racing, blah blah, long story short probably facing a suspension, but thats what I get. anyways, I know you guys aren't lawyers(as far as I know), but heres my question.....

Maryland law states that for a charge of reckless driving, person should be fined no more than $500, but my ticket is $570. Now I'm thinking they will just reduce it to $500 tommorow in court, but I'm not really sure!? anyone got any ideas??? Thanks

well

isnt there some kind of tax? Like my ticket was $170 or something then another $100 for some tax garbage. Also if it is your first ticket, there might have been an added surcharge.

Normally the fines aren't that bad, but then they add on 'donations' to ambulance, emergency response and shiit like that. Don't forget court fees (even if you don't appear) and other little taxes. I rolled through a stop sign and the fine was only like $25, but after the add-ons it was ~$92...

Im NYS., 'court fees and state surcharges' get tacked onto fines, often increasing then by about $50.

if it only raises it by 70 bucks consider yourself lucky! i've had to pay well over 150 in taxes, court costs and other charges.

Whoa, here in Washington as far as I know, I've never had any taxes or add on's in the many tickets that I've gotten. Interesting to read about what happens in other states.

You might look into the Civil Penalty plea, It will not get you off completely but it might prevent the infraction from reaching your record.

Thanks for all the responses guys.....

one question, can I opt to use a "Civil Penalty plea" tommorow in my trial? how exactly does it work?

anyways basically all I'm gonna ask for is a possible reduction in fines...basically I'm guilty as charged, no questions asked so I've got no problems with serving the suspesion in full. Only advantages I have going into this trial is a Driver Improvement class and safety course I too a week ago and successfully passed, but thats life I guess! Anyone ever dealt with this type of situation before?
