Beefy grounding wires

Do these really do anything for performance?

make it yourself. you can get the same gains if you clean all of your grounding points well. i find it hard to believe nissan engineers would improperly ground their car. especially since its basically the same engine bay for about 7-8 years...

Actually 95-99 nissan maximas have a tendicy to have bad grounding issues. My car for instance has gone through many starters due to bad grounds and i just found out the history of the car and they have replaced the starter three times before I owned it so a grounding kit is a good thing. i am going on what nissan told me and i believe it b/c my car had that issue.

So are we replacing factory grounding wires or adding additional wires?

adding additional.

maxedout: is that because the groundpoing points are in incorrect places? or because the grounds get mad dirty and go bad. please elaborate.

personally i put these in with products like: Tornado air filter thingy and things of that sort.

Well personally grounding has helped many people here, I think grounding the MAF shows improvements on our cars that have a shady ground on it... Ask some one about that...So I wouldn't put it in a category w/ the tornado air...

but how many people just cleaned the stock grounds well? i think i'll clean mine and then add a grounding kit, test before and after on both. using nice black wires so its not all over the place...black and chrome goes in my engine bay no silly colors....also making it yourself is the only way to go...why pay for it? tornado air has dynos too!

i will not however reground the maf.

Making it yourself is a time vs money thing..
the parts will cost you $20, then you're going to spend several hours out there cutting wire, running it, making sure it's perfect, trimming it to fit exact, pulling it back off, crimping and soldering terminals onto it, shrinkwrapping the terminals, then installing it all back on the car.

that'll take you several hours for one kit.

[Shameless plug]
Or you could simply buy mine for not much more than the cost of the wire, and do the whole install in half an hour with only a couple tools.
[/Shameless plug]

They are better for your electrical system. Your lights and stereo will benefit.

The ebay ones aren't soldered, they are not specific to our cars and you will probably end up putting 2 grounds on your throttle body like somepeople here have

the ebay one is crap because it's simply a bunch of wires strung together, and it's up to the buyer to "install properly" if you want to see any benefit. it's not designed speficically for the car, and just covers the whole engine bay in a blanket.
I fail to see how connecting a ground to the intake manifold, engine block, and both strut towers is going to help the ECU talk to the sensors better.

FYI, it's a computer/noise issue, not a "Nissan did crappy grounds and they fail over time" issue. It only takes a few millivolts of noise to screw up a sensor reading, and simply strapping wires to everything in sight isn't going to fix that. The engine is already a huge chunk of solid metal- tying both sides of a 500lb chunk of aluminum together with a couple ounces of copper isn't going to make much difference in the electric signals passing through it.

what WILL make a difference is properly grounding the sensors to lower the noise going to the ECU in all of the sensors' signals.

I know Will(metalic97gxe) installed the ebay ones and he found them to work out well. In the case that their not as good as the one for over 100 bucks, someone should make a kit for us that's not expensive and sell it on the gd.

look at the first and second posts for pictures, and post#12 for my thoughts on the kit.

It took me several hours with it. Then sanding/cleaning every connection was also something I did which took more time.

Would I do it again? no

Why? Cause Matt's kit is plug and play. I know he has great soldering skills and believe me that is the biggest part of the job.
