I was drivin around town in my parents 98 GS300 and a gold, 4-door saturn pulls up next to me. he revs is loud azz exhaust and i thought he was just messin around. the light turns green and we both floor it. i thought i would have taken him esily but to my suprise, he stays right next to me. then by about 70mph, im riding right on is azz and starin at his huge shogun style wing (he has a 4dr staurn?!?). i kno this isnt maxima related but does anyone kno if saturns are easy and cheap to mod? i didnt hear a Turbo, SC, Bov or anything and he didnt spray, im sure he was all engine. i believe he had the newer v6 saturn but can they really haul? should i be afraid of saturns in my max now? j/k

Dude,

The GS300 is SLOWWWWW. I think most saturns would beat it stock.

I saw a pretty tight Saturn Coupe 2day. It was green w/ 17 or 18 inch Konig Monsoons. It had been lowered and it gave it a pretty mean look. I was thinking "nicely done!", but dual chrome exhausts finished it off! I know this thing didnt need dual exhaust, but it looked good!

The new V6 Saturns run the 1/4-mile and 0-60 about the same as a GS300, probably even better.

From what I understand...

the new Saturn V-6 engines are the same as the NA Saab 9-3 engines. I've never tried racing one, but I've heard they're pretty quick.

Saturn SL2's, SC2's, and SW2's in a 5-spd with the DOHC motor aren't too bad 0-60. Same for the new LS2/LW2 V-6.

On the freeway though, Saturns are toast.

The new LS2/LW2 with the V-6 should have good modification potential since it's basically the Saab 9-5 V6 minus the turbo.

The smaller 1.9L SOHC and DOHC motors have much less potential. The design isn't too bad and the quality is good, but it's either the crank or the block (I forget which) that is too weak to go beyond 6psi or so with forced induction. Also, when you're only starting with 85~124hp, big HP is hard to come by.

My room mate has a lightly modded Saturn. It's not fast, but its really fun to drive. He's got an intake, exhaust, FSTB, Nology wires and plugs, and Sprint Springs on the way. I've seen turbo Saturns that run low 14 sec 1/4 mile on only 5lbs of boost. Thaey are pretty neat if you ask me. That and they are WAY easier to work on than a Max.
