Sheer silver rocks!

EDIT--> If they still have the stock tires, get new ones. That would be my first suggestion. They go with a moderate drop and adjustable shocks/struts. Then do the rear sway bar. Relatively inexpensive things, but they make a great difference in the way the car "moves" through everyday driving...

Check out the 5th generation (2000-2003 maxima) forums for any questions about technical stuff (although anything regarding fluids, detailing, tires/wheels etc. go into their own forums further down the main page

)

I'd have to agree with everyone on the tire bit--the stock Bridgestone Potenza tires really, really suck.
Just remember that if you're sticking with the stock wheels, stick with the stock tire size (225/50-17) as well. There isn't too much available in 225/50-17, and there's much more to choose from in the next widest size up (235/45-17), but 235/45-17 feels kinda squirmish on the stock wheels and has potential problems, so stay away from them.
