Downforce Question about the Stillen Front lip?
What i would like to know is what kind of pressure the Stillen Front lip gives at high speeds. Even though it is for looks i think it should aid in Downforce applied to the front end of the car. For instance an aftermarket Front spoiler on an M3 can give up to 300lbs of front wheel downforce.
Would anyone with half a mind or Stillen front lip care to respond ?

Zero.
if any.
(well maybe at like 100 mph, it would give like 50 pounds down thrust, due to the vents in the front. but if you dont have the lip bolted down with rivents, the wind will just push the front end down and pop up the piece that's inside the bumper (for 97+)
if you want more front end down force, do what i'm gonna do,
slap on front canards (aka DTM splitters). and angle it downward like 3 degrees.

Besides Neel, i thought u was givin me that.
A front lip probably doesn't generate any down force. It keeps air from flowing under the car which generates drag and lift. Almost all these areo do-dads on street cars are only for show. Unless you swipe a wing off a Cessna, you're not going to get much effect under 100MPH.
Body kits
Do you really think Stillen (or any others) go thru wind tunnel testing when designing their kits. I don't know about you 4th gen guys, but the directions for the Stillen kit on the 3rd gen calls for double sided tape when installing. Many thanks go out to the guy who design/created pop rivets.
well this was what i had in mind, so if you want to "copy" the style. go right ahead.
mainly. i was going to order a pair of DTM splitters ( Carbon fiber, or ABS plastic OR make my own out of aluminum , premo grade) make my own custom mount for underneath the front bumper, and have a pitch adjustor, so that i can raise or lower the canards.. what it will do is at high speeds, the air flow over it, like a wing, will create a "theoretical" down force on the front end, and allow more traction for turning. but this speed we're talking about is like 70+ mph.
BUT do it wrong, an it will create lift in the front (i.e. if it's pitched too high up in the front)
eh. something to play around with. looks cool.
i was going to import it from England... $200US, .. they are the same as the for the 3 series BMW, and then custom mount it to the maxima.... may or may not work. but looks tight.
i m a bit hesitant to do it because my car is already so lowered in the front.. so adding these "canards" will lower the front another inch.... i was only gonna do it when i'm out on the road course.. but hell. do what ever floats ur boat..
email me if you want more info.

yea the splitter that your getting is not the Adjustable one i was looking at. The one im talkin about is from Hamann and is 700+ but it is also adjustable, meaning it can slide forward and back, its definetly a good thing to think about since i cruise at 90 - 100 alot more than i should and i would prefer to have optimum grip.
But then again look at what you and anyone else is working with, a Maxima. The car has potential, but its only so much potential , and also depends on the $$$ you want to plunk down..... too bad about the RX-7 =/

Say Cheston...
Getting back to the subject of the front Stillen lip I printed off your instructions for mounting the body kit and got a question for you. In step 2 you mention about a screw holding in part of the fender wall. When I test mounted the lip I looked for that screw but couldn't find it. Maybe I'm blind but is it located where the lip sort of clamps itself around the bottom of the wheel well? Thanks in advance for your advice!
why not just bolt on wings from a plane..are u THAT concerned about downforce?!?!? it'll prob slow your damn car down more.

nick its Retard .. i got bored so i took the mods off... didnt drive the car in the winter, then i got bored again and put them back on. I like being proficient at things.
All the mods i got that day are sitting in my basement except for the rear anti sway bar. Waiting for better weather and i plan on doing all those things at once. IE get rims, lower the car, have camber adjusted, SS lines, the Rotors put on, Calipers painted and so on.

so basically when hell freezes over? why even bother to take off the mods and now put it back on?? you must be bored as hell upstate. next you'll put out the engine and put it back in a few months later....sheeesh!
