My last two sets of rims were 7.5. With 235/40 tires, the sidewall really bulges out. Now, the 8.5 no more bulges. There seems to be less lip protection now. Should I exchange them for some 240s or 245s? I just weighted the 18X8.5 TE-37 with Toyo Proxy T1-S. They are 40lbs each. Tires are about 21.4lbs occuring to Toyo's website. Is it really worth the 100% price increase over say Konig or TSW just to save 10lbs?

don't forget you'll have rubbing issues in the front during cornering.
i even put 225's on my 8.5 when i first got my new rims and it looked silly! i removed them immediately for 235

Rubbing on the outside or inside? If they do rub on yours, I might as well roll the fenders before I put them on.

hey tony i use to run 245's up front on 42offset, no rubbing but i kinda noticed it rolled itself in. so i guess when the tires first hit the inside lip it rolled it in and gave it the clearance.

Could be 5th gen has more wheelwell clearance than the 4th gen, although the 4th gen has quite a bit.....

Possibly a wheel offset issue????

Oh yeah..there is no such thing as 240s =) I guess 245 is the next size up. I know another 5th gen max running 245/35/19 and no rubbing problems. I don't think I will have any problems. Thanks guys.

I haven't had it rub once yet even with my 35mm offset and I haven't rolled the fenders yet too...
The next set will be 9" wide with the 245s... I kinda like that flush look... LOL

The ride is a little rougher than the stock SE ride... not too bad... I thought the 18" plus the springs would have been much worse... it's not bad... even my friends say so... On very rough roads it does "hurt" a little but the SE inherently didn't handle that type of road well anyways...

T,
what happened to your jap import wheels? (I forgot the brand.)

You waited this long just to end up w/ Te37s????

What color are they? They look good in bronze I think. Although my guess is yours are silver w/ your silver car?

This doesn't go with the topic but oh well!

Skimax, I just wanted to let you know that I'm so envious of your white 4th gen Max! That's exactly how I want mine to look! Ah geez, I love it I tell ya!

i got 18x8 with 235/40-18 and i think i could go to 245.. no rubbing but i think 5th gen fenders have more clearance than 4th.. our rear wheels are further behind the fender than the 4th.. (which makes me mad)

Ming..long story short. UPRD went out of businesses. They were the sole distributor for Advan wheels. My order bascially never got filled. I ended up ordering the silver TE37 two weeks ago. My shop is really tight the Mackin so I got the TE37 pretty quickly.

Wow..255 on a maxima. Anyway, with 235 on 8.5", the tire actually taper out. From checking Toyo's website, 235 is recommended on 8", 8.5" or 9" wide wheels. I'll just stick with the 235s.

I had to roll the fenders and cut some of the fenderwell liner. This package was on my 96 Maxima.
Sick huh ?
I've done BMW's w/ 18x8.5, and mounted on P7000SS in a 225/40R18, later swapped for Toyo Proxes T1s 235/40R18.
With the 225 tire...it looked like the wheels might be too big for the tire. That's what prompted an immediate tire change.

-17,18,19,20.......now 22" ?

I have 255/35/20 and my tires don't rub AT ALL. I can cut the wheel all the way right or left and the tires do not rub. You'll be fine with any size you get under 255!

tires

245's should fit that rim. how about a tire with a rim gaurd. yokahoma has them. then you could stay at 235 if thats the size you really want. you know what i mean? the tire sticks out from the lip of the rim giving it protection from bumping curbs, when we fall a sleep at the wheel. haha not like the tires that just bubble out from the rim. i hate that look. even though that protects the rim also. like the dunlops i got now. i like the tires with curb gaurds. i think nittos have them too, at least my drag radials offer this too.
