now what's a b pipe?? i know on supras the down pipe is alsoi the cat right??? cuz i remember installing the test pipe for my friend and he said "thas also the down pipe"

 

Y-pipe and down pipe are synonomous. The pipe from the exhaust headers to the cat. The b pipe is from the cat to the muffler.

 

y pipe is from the headers to the cat, down pipe is the extension to a regular intake to make it a cold air intake

 

i'm confused. but i got the down pipe thing right on a supra tho right??? hahaah i just install hunks of metal work with hunks of metal but have no clue what they are named, just like girls. hahaha just playin' for reals.. i'm not like that. hahahaahah ok i gotta stop..

the stock max y-pipe has 2 precats on it, the aftermarket y's don't have any cats.the main cat connects to the y-pipe,the b-pipe connects to the main cat,at 1 end and at the other end connects to the tailpipe or muffler(same thing)

 

...and the shin bone connects to the knee bone.....

sure you're not thinking of test pipes?? Down pipes goes from either exhaust manifold/header/turbo(depending on car) to the cat. Test pipe is basically a replacement for the cat. Like a foot long straight piece, no restriction. Y-pipe and downpipe are the same thing on the Maxima. B-pipe goes from cat to muffler, as someone else already stated.

No, those are Supra downpipes. Each car has slightly different terminology. For the 300ZX, the piping that replaces the main cats are called test pipes, on the Supras they are called down pipes.
