Shadow's return...sort of

After 2 years of having his car in pieces while pursuing other projects and developing his business, Shadow finally sent in his car for a repaint and to repair accident damage.

Here is the result:

Changes include:
Custom Candy 3 Stage Blue Paint
Shaved spoiler
Shaved antenna
Audi TT Fuel Door(From Ming's old Max)
Fiber Images Carbon Hood(From thebigsadler)
-Painted sides w/ EA logo left clear
Sarona grille

Mishap Jun 7, 2004 09:45 PM

Doesn't seem that different in the pictures but the paint is much deeper w/ candy flakes that my camera doesn't do justice and OK Autobody managed to completely refinish both Sarona bumpers like new. The original plan for flared body and different body kit were left out since we wanted to get the car back on the road sooner and push for more hp.

What it used to look like:

And what is still in the engine
http://www.evolution-autodesign.com/shadow/DSC03013.JPG

Still left to do:
-New interior
-New stereo
-Bigger wheels :)
-Fuel tuning

Car's still gutted right now so it's perfect for some track runs in a couple weeks. It's going in for tuning at Batlground asap so hopefully it'll make Bristol complete.

nice to see you and jeff didn't leave us  , car is looking pretty damn good.

nubiannupe Jun 8, 2004 12:09 AM

Veeeerrrry Nice!! And good to see ya back, too!

maxima105 Jun 8, 2004 04:15 AM

Looking good!!!!

Shadow Jun 8, 2004 04:35 AM

Yeah, I wish the paint would show up better on camera. And when it's a more sunny day, I hope to get some better pics. It looks almost like my old color, but it's actually pretty different. A lot more pearl, so when it's sunny out, the paint kind of fades to a lavender and silver. Up close, you can see a ton of kandy in the paint.

The flares weren't going to work with the TT fuel door, and the hood vents weren't going to go in cleanly, so I decided to just keep it clean and take the wing off too. Could have made it wilder, but I didn't want half assed body work. Stay tuned for the rest of the rebuild.

1MAX2NV Jun 8, 2004 06:31 AM

Car is looking good Jeff. I like it much better without the wing. You should've done the fender flares because I would like to see how that would look :) Is it paint on the CF hood or vinyl?

Kevlo911 Jun 8, 2004 06:38 AM

What's up with the drivers side headlight?

Conrad283 Jun 8, 2004 06:56 AM

Car looks great Jeff.

I love the no spoiler look in the back

Shadow Jun 8, 2004 07:01 AM

Tony, it's paint on the hood. We used some paint mask vinyl and cut out the logo and painted the rest. I wanted the flares too, but there wasn't enough room on the car to do it right with the fuel door and everything. I didn't want to risk cracking or anything.

And kevlo, the headlight is being replaced. It's fiberglass residue on there. We used it as a mold for an intake for the turbo (you'll see it soon) and the resin got through the tape. New headlight is on the way.

ohannon7 Jun 8, 2004 07:03 AM

awsome!!!!!!!!!

euromaxima Jun 8, 2004 07:38 AM

looks great Jeff, can't wait to see it at Bristol.

JAY25 Jun 8, 2004 07:53 AM

gtr_rider Jun 8, 2004 07:55 AM

THe car looks awesome, good work Jeff! Cant wait to see the interior when its done:jump:

mchne Jun 8, 2004 08:01 AM

that's a beautiful car, great job fixing it up.

Shadow Jun 8, 2004 08:18 AM

I will soon. The car is going into Batlground this week to have all the hot pipes ceramic coated, and new engine mounts put in. Plus we're going to sort out the fuel, the car is running way rich. Once it's running right, I'll be out.

SpeedCrazie Jun 8, 2004 09:37 AM

Shadow: Do you happen to know how large the outlet of you muffler is? I have the same rear bumper and need to find a nice clean fit. Does it touch the bumper at all?

Thanks!

JP

Shadow Jun 8, 2004 11:32 AM

It's a 5" tip. And the muffler doesn't touch the bumper at all, it took a little creative tweaking of the hangers, but it doesn't touch.

Sprint Jun 8, 2004 11:40 AM

are those 20's?

Shadow Jun 8, 2004 11:51 AM

Nope, same 19"s I've always had. The car may roll on 20"s soon though. 19"s are just looking small, and it's time for new wheels.

WOW! I am such a fan of that max!

stephenlc Jun 8, 2004 01:47 PM

How wide are those rims? They look like they should be wider. And the gas tank lid would look better in carbon fiber.

97MaxGurl Jun 8, 2004 01:52 PM

Looks good Jeff/Vic.. Need some custom made wheels ;)

kingrukus Jun 8, 2004 01:58 PM

Really nice...but I think you should stick the OE grille back...that grille resembles a 95/96 too much.

Triple8Sol Jun 8, 2004 02:05 PM

Looks really good. You don't necessarily need to go bigger than 19" though. You just need some nice wheels that are wider and have a better offset.

|Bijan| Jun 8, 2004 02:22 PM

Awesome Jeff........I hope you were kidding about the dubz though

RA030726 Jun 8, 2004 03:04 PM

shaving the door moldings doesnt look bad at all. There was a chick who shaved everything off and it looked bad. The hood looks cool too. Nice work so far.

Shadow Jun 8, 2004 06:05 PM

slammed95, the car is on GC's. It's raised up because the body shop has a big hill, and I needed to clear it. Those pics were taken about 5 minutes after I got it to my shop. I'm lowering a bunch. And I've always been partial to blue.

bijan, I'm very serious about the 20"s. But not cheesy baller chrome rims like spinners. I'd wreck the car before I ever put anything like that on there. There are a lot of very nice wheels in 20" sizes now. It's basically going to be the same style I would have gone with in a 19".

spanishrice, the wheel spacers are off right now. I used them for some prototyping. But the wheels are normally spaced out further. And the gas cap is off of a TT, that's how they come. Most CF gas caps are nasty stick ons. The one on the car is fully functional, and took about a week to install. That whole section of quarter panel was cut out and rebuilt so that the fuel door would be flush and line up with panel. It's not fiberglassed in.

Ange, you have any ideas about rims? :goofy:

I'll have pics up when it's totally done. This is only like 1/4 of the build.

Max4Speed Jun 8, 2004 06:18 PM

Nice progress Jeff! You need them JICs now ;)

99maximagxe Jun 8, 2004 06:35 PM

damn thats one of the best looking max's i have seen. Just beautiful man wish i have the money for a body kit. what kind of kit is that?

Shadow Jun 8, 2004 07:01 PM

It's actually old school, it's a Sarona kit. Had it since they first came out. I haven't liked any of the new kits out since, so I'll stick with it.

And Oss, you know I want them. Just have to get all the other stuff done first. :D
