need help removing oxidation from engine

I posted this in the detailing forum yesterday but so far no responses, so Ill try here: I just bought a 00 max a couple of days ago - unfortunately it was idle for on the dealer's lot for about two months before I bought it. The engine valvecover and timing chain cover incurred a lot of nasty, patchy, oxidation-like residue (whiteish-grey) during the time the car was not moved. How do get rid of the oxidation and make my engine bay look clean again? Thanx for your answers!

Oxidation = sanding/abrasive work, try with a high pressure hose but that probably wont work, but if it's whitish, it may be corrosion .

It's probably too late to do anything for those parts. Usually they are clearcoated when new and if it gets corroded, that means the metal has been etched. The only way you could possibly make it better is by polishing the corroded parts and resealing them. Other than that, you will most likely need new parts.

I wouldnt be too worried...unless of course you can see your timing chain and sprockets moving in there. . .

If it's not pitted yet then just go ahead and wash and wipe off the affected areas( if pitted then lightly sand down the area using something around 400 grit or higher, what ever works to remove them) then go with a preferred metal polish. I use mother's aluminum polish but recently i've been using MX-7 metal polish, it's alot faster and gives a better gloss than the mother's. If you want a polished look then you have to sand those parts from 400 grit all the way to 2000 grit for a high gloss look. Good luck
