allstate insurance
My agent just told me that allstate covers nothing aftermarket for their vehicles. This includes wheels, ground effects, subs, amps and screens and what not. Is this completely true because it seems like im out 2000 bucks. And are there any insurance companies that actually do cover aftermarket products?

thats funny.. cause insurance companies should cover everything on the car..
let say you car ges stolen .. and you had rims..
you insurance company should pay you the price of the car and rims..
so much for being in "good hands"

yes i do have full coverage, but they even said if the car was stolen or totalled, they would fix it to the way it came out the factory. After this, i sure dont feel like im in "good hands"
I believe you have to get a rider for your accessories.
For example: My motorcycle is damaged and I have aftermarket CF pipes. w/o the rider I get no coverage for the CF pipes or your house is robbed and your wife's 5ct diamond is stolen. w/o the rider they will only replace jewlery up to a very low max$ like $2500 and trust me a 5k rock is worth more than that.

No way an insurance company is going to cover your $2k of accessories when they thought they were just covering you for the value of your car. You have to pay and usually declare extra coverage for these kinds of things--doesn't sound like Allstate even offers that kind of thing and looking into that after the fact is a little late. You can easily double the worth of any car with aftermarket parts...it doesn't stand to reason that your insurance would cover that for the same premium as a stock vehicle.
Geico sure as hell doesn't cover modified cars (saw that almost right away when going for quotes).
I'm not sure about All State if you dont tell them or bah. I cant take the risk so I flat out told them that my cars are modified and are worth substancially more than blue book and they said ok, that isnt a problem.

Peddy who is your agent because that makes no sense at all?? I have Allstate Insurance too and they covered, still covering my subs and amp that I got about almost a year or two years ago. I had to pay an extra $25 a month but it covered up $1000 in stereo step with a $50 dectubile. I called them to make sure about this as soon as I got my stuff. I have seen your stuff and yea insurance probably would be GOOD for the money that you spent. Plus when my car got broken into a couple of years ago. They paid me for the headunit that got smashed and was usually with full coverage at that time. I dont have full coverage anymore though.

i have allstate....my car was broken into 2 months ago. all sate cover ur wheels, you need to show them the receipt or pic of ur car. They did paid for my clarion VRX935VD ( i think that's the model #). but they didn't cover my sub, amps and other stuff that were taken from my car. From what my agent told me, they cover anything that FITS into the holes of the car.....headunit...wheels. Other stuff should be cover by home owner's insurance or renter's insurance if u live in an apt. let me know if u have anymore questions

I wish I would have known about that extra 25 a month, but now i guess i cant do anything.
I have been with Allstate for 30 years. So I will let you in on a secret .... just like mechanics, some Agents are more knowledgeable than others about the ever changing rules of the large company that they work for.
In general you can get insurance coverage on almost anything provided:
You ask up front before you get it taken.
You keep the receipts (and take photos).
You stop in and visit your agent at least once a year to make sure that he/she is aware of your special coverages.
Allstate is not the greatest insurance company in the world and they are not the least expensive but I've never had any problems with any of my claims and I have had special things covered.

my fried had his car stolen with aftermarket parts and they payed for every single mod on the car.
he had farmers' insurance, but i think you will have to talk to your agent and let him know you want insurance for your aftermarket parts also. from what i know, i think they have different levels of full coverage. good luck.

You're right Maximus there is what is called "full coverage" which is usually the depreciated value of the item that is insured and then there is "replacement value" which is really expensive.
As far as mods go you have to realize that if you don't tell your agent up front about the mods then as far as the insurance company is concerned they are insuring a "stock" vehicle. One reason that you have to provide them with your VIN # is so they know "exactly what options they are insuring you for" and this plays into the rate that you pay.
There is no such thing as a "Free" lunch.
