The other day it snowed pretty bad...I started my car up, and noticed that I had left the wipers on the night before, so I turned the car off quickly. The wipers tried their best to move while the car was on, but the snow/ice was too heavy...so damage was done. No I try to turn the wipers on, and I get a sound which seems to be slipping gears or the motor trying hard to do something, but no wiper movement. I can go outside the car, and sort of 'help' the wipers along and they will both go up and down in unison after an initial push, but then upon reaching the bottom they just sit there until I 'help' them again.... Any suggestions??

PartsAmerica.com lists a rebuilt wiper motor for $101 plus $12 core charge plus shipping. For installation instructions see the Chilton repair manual (page 6-14) or the Haynes manual (page 12-14).

Daniel's right...sounds like the spline drive >>

got stripped. What I do, living here in New England, may sound a bit extreme...but if I know that there will be serious snowfall, I actually take the wiper blades off... they do come off easily enough...I put in the car on the floor. When I get back to my car, I take my snowbroom, sweep of all the snow...re-install the blades and I'm off. Taking them off, also makes it easier to clean the snow off...

I always forget to shut the wipers off at night. But yeah, it does sound like something got stripped...I live in New England (Worcester, MA), and my car has taken a beating this winter. This mornings commute wasn't too fun with no wipers.
