Speeding Ticket on I-76/70
Hi,
Got a ticket this morning on I-76/70 in Alleghany County area on my way from Ohio.
I was doing 83 in 55 zone, and got a 185.00 penalty
I live in MD, and this is my first ticket/offense.
What should I do ...
-- pay if off
-- plead guilty in court with an explanation
for each option, how many points do I get?
what will be the impact on insurance, and for how long ?
thanks -- Noela

As for what to do, pleading guilty in court won't do any good. If you plead guilty, you don't even get a hearing. Either just plead guilty, send in your ticket with a check for 185, and move on, or plead not guilty and try to fight it in court. Since you don't live around here, it probably would not even be worth it to come back to PA for the hearing.
That's kind of surprising you got pulled over there though, normally you don't see too many cops on 76. Good luck.
Well,
on sunday, the cops were there..... within an hour of my encounter, they pulled up 3 other people...quite scary..
now, I really think i need a radar detector...
where can i find info about the traffic laws ?

most of the states surrounding mayland have reciprocity(sp?) meaning if you get a ticket in those states it counts. you fall into the 20 to 29 area of md law which is 2 points. id pay it not worth the drive and other potential ticket

Pay, move on, it's not that tragic, nor is the fine that bad. Now if you want to make it a habit of getting tickets it's in your best interest to fight them all. But a first one.. well unless you really have a case it's quite pointless.
You can find the points and penalties for all violations on your state's homepage/DMV website.

Both of your options are the same thing aren't they? Don't you have to go to court either way? People here go 15-20 miles over the limit and they have to go to court. Either one you pick you have to pay the ticket and get the same points. If you go to driving school they take the points away if I'm not mistaken.
