PR style CAI and water???

K, just got home from a scary situation, thought I almost lost my baby!! I have the place racing style cold air intake that hangs down in front of my right wheel, it has been pouring rain here and we were let go from duty early due to the flood warnings, now I new water and the intake is not a good combination but the rain had let up a little so I stupidly took the risk rather than sleeping in my office for the night. With the way the rain has been here in SA the past several years it has felt like Seattle so I made sure to hook up a cone filter with a plastic rain gaurd covering much of it. Well, I made a turn into an intersection that had a pretty good amount of runoff praying she will be fine, then as I enter the intersection whoom, she shut down on me. I got out and checked the filter out and saw a little bit of smoke seeping out from the engine bay. Some people pulled over and helped me push her out of the water and when we got in the clear I attempted to start her back up, SHE STARTED!!! the first second I heard some gurgling sound like she was sucking the bits of water that got through the cover up but since then she sounded back to normal. Has anyone been through this, im hoping now that it does not leave a lasting affect, I will let you all know how she does in the morning. I checked her out when I pulled in the parking space and started her up a couple more times and listened to the intake and everything sounded great. Heres praying for my baby

It's cheaper to change your oil now than risk further damage your engine since you do not know how much water had dilluted in the oil from your incident. I think you should change the oil out ASAP!

Its not that easy for me to change it since I live in an apartment and they do not have covered parking and its still coming down outside but I will get it changed first thing in the morning, thanks for the fast replies, kinda (kinda kinda) eased my mind.

That happened to a guy that I know. He has a 2001 integra. He sucked up a lot more water though. He said he had to floor it to keep the car from stalling. Amazingly he still drives the car and it seems to be fine. It's been about a year. He put a AEM bypass on his CAI to prevent future mishaps.

Listen dude, another guy that works in wilford hall hydrolocked his engine, dont risk it.
This is what I do when it rains like it did 2day, and yes, I did have to do it 2day......
1-Carry a spare filter w/ you and a screwdriver.
2-Go to a covered place (the car wash by the BMT Mini-Mall is perfect)
3-Unscrew the CAI Tube from right before the MAF and kinda push it down out of the way
4-Slap that xtra filter on.

You just went from a CAI to a Short Ram in about 2 minutes. WOOT!!
