Ah just water and a rag to wash your car???->

Dude, the suds in the car wash soap helps lift the dirt off the car and away from your paint. If you just use water and a rag, you will be just *grinding* the dirt back and forth. Buy some car wash soap and a good mit. If you are tired from washing your car then you need to do some more cardio

6 hours?!?! Takes about 2.5 hours to wash, dry, wax, and buff off. Interior takes about 45 minutes.

takes me..

i dunno the whole day. hhheheh. i first hose it down with just the hose, to get all the loose dirt off, then hook it up to a water pressurizer, spray the car off. then i use a wash sponge and car washing detergent to wash the car. apply real lightly with big strokes, cover the whole panel with saop. rinse, repeat with smaller and more firm strokes. then rinse. then move to another panel. blah blha blah.. dry first with leaf blower, then dry by layin' and dabbin aborber cloth on top of wet spots. open all doors wipe clean. allow rubber seals to dry, wax. buff and wonder why i did all that for.

Just do a general search on the web. There are tons places that sell it. If you want a great deal, go to Costco.

heheheh

liquid dawn is good for removing water spots caused by water and the wax....I dunno..I might be nuts but...that worked...
since I don't leave in a house no more, I go to the do it yourself carwash place...man I swear they use dawn or something for the soap...and then I use my own car wash soap
then rinse till no suds
drying up using Kanebo Chamois...made in japan thing...pretty darn good and of course bath towels
sometime I use news paper after I dry up the window
wheels? use regular soap and brush...takes long..but worth it
how long does it take me?
wash and dry...1 to 1.5 hour
wax polish....2 to 3
interior....1 to 2
Yeah...I can not do it in a one day shot...too darn long

Dawn?

I've never tried using it to get rid of water spots..but I'll give it a try.

I wouldn't suggest using dish soap all the time tho because it will remove your wax...never use laundry soap..it's really bad for your finish. Use just a small amount of a reputable car wash soap.

Also..you can buy bug and tar remover in aresol cans..just make sure to follow the directions and re-wax area.

Takes me about 30-40 minutes to wash my wheels.
The same for the car.
I wash 1-2 times a week...the more you wash the less time it takes.

Josh

Water and a spong!!!!

Are you nuts!!! If you continue to wash your ride with just water and a spong your gonna scratch off all your paint. I'm assuming that you don't have a black car because I have one and it takes me around 6 hours to completely rinse, wash, dry, wax, and admire. I use my garden hose, a cotton mitt, and ArmorAll car wash solution. It takes me 15 minutes to rinse, 10 minutes per rim and the rest for washing and drying. I wouldn't suggest using dawn or any other dishwashing solution because it will fade and dry the paint. You can use car washing solution as long as you don't leave it on the paint for too long. I use the car wash soap to clean my rims because I've heard that the rim cleaners wreck the paint.

OMG!

Holm boy - DO NOT clean your car with just plain water!! Puh-leez tell me that you don't really do that! Jeff is right, you're just working the existant dirt on the surface of the car INTO the paint. Don't do it! And don't use dish or laundry soap either. The chemicals and abrasives in that stuff will spell the long-term doom of your paint finish, especially if you live in an inclimate area. I, personally, won't even drive my car through a machine wash. Its never been in one - ever. You're right, it only takes a little while to do it by hand and is SOOooo much better for your car.

A sponge is fine, or a soft cloth, preferably cotton. Old t-shirts are perfect. Spend a few bucks and get a car wash solvent soap like Turtle Wax ZipWash, or the Amour All one (the name escapes me). If you hit the wax & cleaner isle of your auto store or any Kmart, Walmart, Target, etc., there will be about fifteen of them - Meguiars, Blue Velvet, NuFinish... My belief is that the main differnce between them is marketing, but even if not, any one of them is going to be better than Dawn or Ivory. Use that stuff to get the sour orange juice smell out of your cups, use something that was formulated to richen and add essential oils, waxes & elements back to paint on your car.
