I'm noticing there is a tremendous disparity in ages here. Especially when I start seeing posts from kids in high school, zipping around in a brand new Maxima their rich parents just bought them, and bragging about their copious allowance that they spend on mods for their cars... including their parent's I30s.

What ownership group do you fit in?

I'm almost 25, have a wife and a kid, and got the absolute best car for my money, a 96 Max. Mods come slowly but surely!

Damn those young whippersnappers!

Just out of college, but have been working for a few years. Making good money, and saving up for the GS430 at the end of the year (buying, not leasing). I saw the Maxima as a 'bridge' car. Maybe I'll get the new Maxima instead...

In the same boat as strattao, almost 25, wife, kid, 96 Max. Must be nice to have rich parents and plenty of cash for mods at that age!

Maybe you should have another category for those of us in high school/college who got the car as a gift, but pay for everything. I got my car when I graduated high school, but I pay for everything I do to the car and maintenence, etc. Hell, I work 3 jobs to pay for this. I think I probably spend more on mods than I would a car payment. Oh well...

BTW, what's up with people always bagging on kids who got cars from their parents? Is there something inherently wrong with parents giving nice things to their kids? I know it can go overboard and lead to spoiled, bratty kids, but just because a parent buys their child a car doesn't mean that child is going to become spoiled. It's like people are proud of poverty or something. Yes it does mean more knowing that you bought your car with your own hard earned money, but there's nothing wrong with having nice parents either. They got me the car, but I've worked in their restaurants since I was 8, so I guess it balances out.

Okay, I got my first Max (89') as a gift from Dad. I paid for everything , from maintenence to insurance to mods. I got hit by a drunk driver and the car was totalled. I bought my second Max (96') last June by myself, and I pay for everything, from the car note, to insurance to maintenence to mods. I work two jobs and go to school (college)full- time. What category do I fall in?

I don't fit into any of those. I bought my '97 Max in 1998 with my own money during high school, when I worked. I went to college right after that, and I pay for everything on or having to do with my car. I don't work anymore so I can concentrate on college, so my living expenses come from financial aid. This is why I don't mod like I want to. I've never had any financial help with my car.

...and its almost paid off

I don't really fit into any of these catagories either. . . I got help from my mom in the fact that she would let me buy her car off her for a fairly cheap price, but the car wan't beat up. I am 22, paid $10K for mine about a year and a half ago and I do pay for all maintainence and anything else I do for her.

Mechanic, I guess

I am 20, work almost full time, and go to college. I was given a 1990 volvo 740 with 120K miles as a present when I finished high school. I quicky upgraded to a 91 Explorer, then traded up to a 95 max and once again moved up to my 98 I30T. I pay for every thing on the car and buy all my mods and I have installed every thing on my car my self. BTW Gary I hope you were not gearing the comment about I30's to me,if so you are very wrong.

I'm half of choice B)

well... my current car is a old dying 95 Pathfinder. My dad bought the Maxima for me as a "birthday" present that's coming up this sept. He payed for the car, but all the mods on the car comes from my own money. I have spent ~$300 so far.

I have a cool job as creative director and web designer (*cough* www.e-lens.com ), and I get paid $12/hour. Thats about $300 a week to chat and download music off napster. not bad for a senior high school geek. >=D!

The kids at my school drive audi S4s, mustangs, cameros, etc... (the audi is equivalent to a civic at my school).

I love my Maxima. And I'm very grateful my dad bought me my car. i'll eventually pay him back for it *snicker*

theirs some background info on me

*PS, im not a uber-geek, im actually dead sexy

No, I wasn't gearing my comment to you personally. In my travels I have been exposed to a wide variety of Maxima owners. I wasn't expecting anyone to step up and vote for "B", it was kind of a ribbing to the spoiled brat syndrome (I've encountered enough on my own to warrant including it). But it is interesting to see that "A", "C", and "D" are practically neck-and-neck so far. I should have extended "A" to include "(or gift, but you pay for everything else)".

It's amazing, C pretty much perfectly describes me. Of course, I'm looking forward to being D sometime in the future.

True test, who lives with parent, roomates, and along

This is the true test of anybodies cash flow and time. I'm not jelous of the people who were given the cars as a gift or got a killer low price on it. I'm jelous of the young bastards that still live with their parent, don't pay a nickle (or hardley anything at all) for room and board and drop every dime on their car. I wish I cold do that, but I'm past that stage in my life, besides, I don't think my GF would like to move back to NY to live with my folks.

Secondly, I'm jelous of people that live with roomates and have such a divided cost of living that they can soak every penny into their car.

I'm a C with a rent payment higher than a morage on a $200,000 house, a $450 car payment, a $200 insurance payment, a $267 college loan payment for the next 20 godamn years, and I was just layed off two weeks ago. **** you all and your mods!!! just venting.... any maxima driver is cool. Just call me kermit the envious.
