22mpg

22mpg, me and 2 passengers, AC, 90deg outside, wai, 5th gear freeway driving

I finished off a fresh tank of gas and got only 22mpg. Should I be happy? Drove cruise control 75mph, no crazy driving.

Oh, and something made me smile the other day, yet still hate my car. There were 8 people and we were heading out for dinner. I was driving, and another person w/a new Solara. Funny cuz everybody wanted to ride in my car cuz it was "nicer". What's that supposed to mean? I doubt my car's faster, esp w/a carload of people. Bah... still want an M3.

22 isn't good at all, the worst I ever got was 24 in my 98, and that was beating the hell out of it. I usually got 27 to 29, just slightly better than my 2003.

As for the comparison between a solara, don't be surprised. I'd rather ride in the back of a Sentra than a G35 coupe, that way I don't have to do the whole wait for someone to let me out of the death trap routine that's associated with the back seat of coupes. Solaras are still toyotas, and that makes them pretty damn boring...

Depends on the type of driving... 22 isnt bad if it was city driving... as a matter of fact if it was city driving thats great. On the highway thats not too good. I would expect over 25 mpg on the highway. I averaged about 27mpg with the a/c on and doing 80+ on a 600+ mile trip about 2 weeks ago. City driving is where I have pretty bad mileage at, I only get about 18mpg

BUt it all depends on a bunch of things, you cant just say because someone else averaged 29 or 31 mpg that you can achieve the same. You have to take into account aftermarket wheel size, condition of your car (recent tune up, 02 sensors, knock sensor, egr), weather, passengers, a/c, how hard were you driving the car and a few other things.

dang, something's wrong then. Cuz I had cruise control on for 75mph. WAI, 17" rims, and street tires, don't think they make that big a diff when I'm already rolling, do they?

Plus I SeaFoamed about a month ago. This ain't good.

Depends. At high speeds, wind resistance really eats away at MPG. I try to cruise at 70km/h because that's when I seem to get the best mileage. When I was going to school, I used to go over 100km/h travelling 20km each way and I got crap mileage for highway K's (21mpg)

Have you checked your air filter
I changed mine recently and mileage went up a little (21-23mpg city)

Ok, lemme try cruising at 70mph and see what happens.

I recharge my filter once a month. If I don't, all the oil pools at the bottom, leaving the top dry.

WOW! I get better than 22mpg driving in the city. Oh the highway, i'll get AT LEAST 26mpg. (that's driving Mario Andretti style.) Normal highway i'll get 28-30.
To get 19mpg in the city? You must be waiting waaay too long to shift or something b/c we've got the same car.

The only way to accurately measure your mpg is to divide the number of miles traveled on that one tank of gas by the number gallons it took to refill the tank. (that's assuming that you started with a full tank)

Do NOT go by the mpg on the trip computer. Every person I have heard from so far says the the computer's mpg numbers are much higher than actual. For most people, the computer mpg number is about 3-3.5 mpg higher than actual.

Yup... that's how I do it. I don't know where Nissan gets those MPG numbers on the trip computer. I"ve got an '03 Grand Cherokee that's within .5 mpg every time on the trip computer. WTF Nissan???

Yeah, I average 29 with highway driving.. But if I do any city driving at all that gets lowered to 24. I also like to give it a little gas, so that's probably eating into my MPG.
