Got rims for my 2nd gen!

I thought I would just share this with the general community. Wanted to show you guys that us people with older gens are representing too! Anyway, I wanted to see what you guys think considering it's hard to find any modded 1st or 2nd gens. Most of the time, they are not in that great condition either. Anyway, any comments or constructive criticism would be appreciated! Please don't flame.

S

Little information about the wheels. They are TSW Trophies, 18x7.5. They sport Yokohama Parada Spec II's on the front wheels, and Yokohama Parada's on the rear wheels. The car was converted from 4 lug wheels to 5 lug wheels using primarily 3rd gen maxima suspension parts. I'm also running 3rd gen Eibach's with 2nd gen KYB GR2's. That project was quite a feat.

BTW, I will try to get better pics posted. Because of how sunny it was when I took them, a lot of the pics didn't turn out as well as I hoped.

Got them from a good friend of mine. Ian...who is iansw on the board here. They use to be on his 4th gen, he got pushed into a curb/wall by someone that wasn't paying attention, and curb the crap out of one wheel (pretty noticeable when your standing about 5 ft from the car). So part of the settlement was insurance would buy him a new set of wheels, and he ended up getting a nice light set of 5zigen FN01R-C 18's. Since I helped him out many time with his car, he just gave the Trophies to me....all I had to do was making them fit my car (hence the 5 lug conversion), and get tires for them (which I got from NWM member). I forgot to mention those at 215/35ZR18 tires.....they are freaking rubberbands! I would have some rub issues if I went with a 225/40zr18 tire. The only rub I have now is when I turn the wheel fully left or right, I get some rubbing on inside splash shield that protects the tranny and motor.

Yeah, I remember him posting that. He could never find a replacement wheel so he just got new ones.
Good deal for you though.
How bad is that curb rash?

I have a pic of it at home, I'll put it up as soon as I get home. It's not really all that bad, and I can live with it. I'm not out to win car shows so I'm not too worried about it.

Thanks guys for the response. I'm very happy with the end result. My major concern was clearance, and the roundiness of the wheels versus the box/sharp angles of the car, but it turned out to be quite a nice contrast.

vsamoylov: The car runs spectacular. Granted it has it's little quirks for a 18 year old car (rear struts mounts make a little noise because the washers are loose, need a impact wrench to fix it, the control arm/fsb bushing need to be replaced, so they make a nice clunk when I brake every now and then, power steering leaks a little)...otherwise mechanically, the car is totally sound. I don't have an engine swap planned, but I'm in the process of turbo'ing the car. I have the T3 Turbo (Z31 VG30ET), front manifold with turbo flange, and Z31 Turbo Injectors at the moment. My plans are to base my turbo install on the Austrailian/JDM version of my car which is the U11 Bluebird Maxima Legran which has a VG20ET turbo motor in it. My goal, while far less than you expect is to get this car turning about 200-225whp at about 8-10psi of boost. Conservative, but for a car that weight in around 3050-3150lbs, this should get me some nice quarter mile times for a car like this. (I'm currently doing a 16.3, these cars usually do about 17.7 stock, my goal is 14's which I hope is pretty conservative). Lukily I have a bunch of people that are helping out, like Jeff92SE, and iansw.

FLAVOR247: As promised, here is my a pic of the wheel with the bad curb rash...as I said, it's not too bad, but it looks that whay when you look at it close.

Hehe! No worries, I won't show your car up!

As for that rash...is that really fixable? A good chunk of the wheel is essentially gone (It isn't a bent over), so I'm confused as to how that can be fix. I'll have to check out the link though.

Yup it is. I need to claybar, polish and wax it again though. The paint is feeling rough again because of all the damn pollen from the trees in my yard.

Man that thing looks good, we all must remember the 85-88 Maxima are the ones that really put the Max into the enthusiast spotlight or spotlight in general. It was the first attempt at a Sporty Sedan from Japan and it did well, I would love to find a 87 SE in great shape.

Yup, the 2nd gen did. In 86 was when the maxima first sold 1 million units too. And a lot of people don't realize a lot of things came out of the 2nd gen too. The suspension was completely copied from the 2nd gen and put on the 3rd gen (that's why my 5 lug conversion was possible), it kept the moniker "Z-powered sport sedan", and for the time, no one could touch the numbers the 2nd gen had unless it was german made. It just sucks how it gets forgotten as time elaspes. I'm just glad to have a small little piece of Nissan history myself.

Your right! Also I must add that GL was the techno gizmo car from at that time, with all of those gadgets/gizmos on the dash including an avail trip computer. The Max and the Cressida (what a rivalry that was between the GL/GXE against the Cressida at that time) clearly had way more features than any other Sedans from Japan at that time including the 86 Acura Legend.

And don't forget the talking lady too! Man, if I knew the lady the recorded all the messages for this car in person....I'd do her!

The Cressida was one helluva a car too....and RWD! But the Maxima still lives on where the Cressida faded away after the early 90's.
