If your tranny has 150K+ miles on it, have you had it flushed before, if so how many times? Just curious...

I am not sure if you are asking about just Maxima tranny or period...

I have 97 Nissan Altima with 190k. A/T flush every 30k no exceptions.

I haven't in the time I've had it, but I've only had it for a year. It's done 166k miles, and I'm thinking of doing this fairly soon.

I had an 89 max and my buddy that owns a garage talked me into doing a tranny flush. I had around 150k on it at that time. About a month after I had to have the tranny rebuilt. I just sold it with 210K on it. If I had to do it over I don't think I would change it. I would just take my chances.
just my .02 cents.

Had 240k on my 89 originial automatic transmission. Still shifted great. I think I had it flushed once according to my records. I was on the second motor too but its life was cut short a month ago. But now it is sitting on the side of the house basically dismantled.

To update my tranny status:
I had my tranny drained and filled and 100 miles later no problems yet. Excuse my stupidity, but what's the difference between draining+filling it and flushing it?

Its been an old tale of mechanics from years ago till now... cars with high mileage on their transmission will have alot of debris from the burning of the clutch packs inside... that same debris over time will help the clutch packs stick so your transmission shifts... its been said if you change the ATF on a transmission like that you will have ALOT of problems. Whether its true or not depends on the car itself. I did a flush at about 50K and had no problems... I've been thinking of doing another one soon, I'm at about 75K

I have a 5-spd but I agree with your opinion. Hate to say it but sometimes if it ain't broke don't fix it makes sense. Anyone who does home improvement knows that. Usually if you get a refrigerator installed, the delivery guy improperly hooks up the water line to it, doesn't bother to secure the clip that holds the 1/4" tube fixed near the nut and ferrule. He pushes the appliance against the wall and is gone. It doesn't break until you pull it forward for the first time. (it's a bit more scary when you think the same dude installs gas ranges--they never install the anti-tip brackets and tend to over-tighten the gas fittings even though they're flared) The same thing happens with vehicles, things stay put until they're disturbed. I doubt I'll ever get an auto, but I like the BMW philosophy--the entire automatic is permanently sealed. You don't mess with the fluid. If your fluid is not pink, the tranny is toasted anyway. NYC tranny shops will do a flush with mineral spirits and replace the fluid, so it will be pink again. Wont make the tranny not break down like it was gonna anyway......my .02

my old max (89' auto) I THINK it was flushed twice since I had it. I know at least once for sure. I didnt do all the work on it like i do to my baby now. I always let other people take care of it. When I got rid of it, it had 246k+ miles and still ran ****er after all the stuff its been through. I still see it driving around town every once in a while.

it doesn't make sense to not flush the transmission because of debris coming loose. If you got that much junk in your trans, then it's doomed anyways. if you flush it, you have a better chance at it living a long time. Plus there is a screen that catches all the junk in the transmission.

But this article by the Filters Manufacturers Council may help.

The old tale as I know it says that if you haven't flushed your tranny by 100K miles, don't bother. The general reason is listed above (the gunky fluid supposedly helps keep the seals together, even though they're long rotted)

We serviced his tranny at about the 90,000 mile mark.
He beats the crap out of the car and never maintains it. Still runs great thou.
