Levoc Shift - OD Button Sensitivity

Ok, got the shift ****, installed successfully in less than 15min, lol but the O/D button is way to sensitive...does anyone else have this problem?

I can just tap it and O/D will kick in...any suggestions?

I had the same thing on my 2000 maxima. A buddy of mine does too. Unfortunately I think this is a problem with the Levoc *****.

here is the problem. LEVOCs come with a "push on/push off" switch. The stock shift is a "momentary" switch. Basically, when you press the stock button it sends voltage through it only when the button is pressed in. The LEVOC needs to be pushed on then pushed off because it will stay on. Tapping the button will allow it that momentary voltage to go through and will turn the OD on/off. So naijai has a good suggestion....don't tap it. EZEMaxima, hopefully this explains why you need to hit it so much. Not much you can do about it besides be careful.

heh, funny, the OD button on my stock shifter is pretty sensitive. I can flicker the OD light on and off just by wiggling the button without pressing it.

not that I've ever tried that while the car's moving, but still.

I hit the darn OD button almost every time I touch the radio. nothing like doing 80 mph and fitting the OD button. You get used to it though. I don't hit it too often anymore.

...and yes, it looks good! ChinoX, did you cut your post to make it lower?

I know what you mean but mine is especially wierd because i can hear it click indicating that it's either engage or disengage but nothing.....then i have to keep on pushing on it till i get it to engage or disengage.

Anybody know of anyway to shorten the shifter without losing any of the functionality.. like having to press the button to shift gears? The thing is like 3-4" taller then the stock shifter and sticks out alittle too much for me.

John

Can you do a write up or email me at EZEMaxima@aol.com on how you did it. Any problems after cutting it that short?

Thanks Eric

One of these days I also wanted to lower my Levoc and it seems very doable. If you can lower the allen head screw that secures the Levoc **** on the shifter, it will lower the **** all together. Just take a drill and tap a new hole for the Levoc ****. How many inches you lower the screw you will have to cut the top of the shifter (not the Levoc) the same amount. Doing this will render the OEM **** useless. That's my $0.02

EDIT: I don't remember the OEM O/D switch being a momentary switch. I thought it was a on/off switch just like the Levoc switch. The Levoc O/D button is very sensitive, it's also in a position that can be hit easily with your right knee or arm. After a while you'll get use to it and you'll probably start keeping your arm and knee away from the button without you knowing it.

Basically all I did was measured how much I wanted to lower the ****.(i think it was 1-1/2" - 2") Then, I used a pipe cutter to cut that amount off of the top of the shaft. I had to cut the same amount off of the post inside the shaft(the one that engages the gears). Then, I put the shift **** back on and BAM! ...lowered LEVOC shift ****!
