Is it alright to add distilled water to the battery in a 2000 Maxima. The level of the battery fluid is almost down to the bottom line. I have done this before in the battery for my Watchdog Sump Pump and batteries for my golf cart. Is it alright to do this in our cars?

Thanks, I have never added distilled water to a "maintenence" free battery. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to mess stuff up.

What was the purpose of your post? I mean if it was to knock my question, you are an idiot. I have done many modifications to a few different Maximas. I have also helped assemble purpose built race cars, jetskis, boats etc. I would rather ask a stupid question and get a correct answer, rather than go ahead and take chance that I might make a mistake because of ignorance.

Used to be that one added water to a car battery as a part of regular maint just like checking oil level. With the advent of "maint-free" you shouldn't have to and on many of these batteries they are actually sealed and you cannot.

If you can on yours, there should be no problem in doing this and you are correct distilled water is exactly what you are supposed to use. Please be careful not to get any of the fluid from the battery splashed in your eyes as it is VERY acidic. Add the water slowly a little at a time as you do not want to over fill.
