I think I just found my next car. That'll be right in my price range out of school, and damn it's nice. The best thing is...

"The multi-link independent rear suspension of the 2002 Altima is adapted from the Japanese-market Nissan Skyline supercar and is similar to Infiniti’s flagship 2002 Q45 sedan. "

Independent rear suspension!!! And adapted from the Skylines at that! I know it doesn't mean anything realistically, but that's really cool.

For the rear suspension it says this: "Multi-link independent with stabilizer bar". Does that mean a stock RSB? It appears Nissan is really on the right track.

I think we should look into registering VQ.org, then I can stay after I get my new V6 Alty!!

looks like it will be right around the Camry/Accord price range...

Look at the competitive comparison chart:
http://www.nissannews.com/nissan/pr_.../comchart.html

I suppose the 4 cyl starting at around 15-16 grand, 3.5 V6 up to 27-28 grand.... Wow. While I'm thinking of the Alty, I keep wondering what the new Max is going to be like.. I suppose it will cost more..

Good one! Coming from someone who's favorite mod is clear sidemarkers...

Don't worry, Russ - somewhere out there is a guy with a 1988 300ZX turbo that is pissed your Maxima 'family car' can outrun HIM.

Sooner or later, somebody makes a car better than yours.

like that commercial that says

boys are like sheep.

Interesting how some people care only about numbers sight unseen. I just saw the 4th M5 in my locale and it's looking more ordinary less the exhaust and rims, yet it's got what, 400 hp? Even the 525i has 17" avail and clears and looks very good. And you guys are now aspiring to an Altima? Gentleman, sometimes one needs to set ones sights higher.

Maxima is decent. It's never gonna be the fastest, most expensive, lowest 0-60, highest top speed, that's just not what it is. Bang-for-buck, say that 5 times fast. It's got zero snob appeal, but most max owners aren't snobby. I mean the character peaked with the 3rd gen, got a little lost with the 4th, and is gone with the 5th. imho as a '98 driver

Hey, at least it's Nissan. You'd rather lose to a Ford or something?

Damn ... what's with all the sibling rivalry?! Now I remember why I hang out more at Altimas.net ...

If my older brothers/sister hated me for making more money than them, I guess I wouldn't have much of a family left.

Re: is it me

The first time I saw the pic of the new Altima, I said Lexus LS400. The rest of the body looks like a Lexus GS and yeah, the rear lights look like a Monte Carlo.

It looks good! I want one! I'm surprised Nissan actually put a 3.5L 240hp engine in that thing. WOW. I wonder how IS300 owners feel about this, even though the Altima isn't really competing with it.

Now what I want to know is, what will happen to the Maxima? The Altima took its place...going upscale would be the I35. I can think of two choices Nissan might make. One would be to turn it into a cheaper Q45/Avalon fighter, or two, go up against BMW's 5 series and Lexus' GS series.

I think most of you know this already, but the Nissan badges are larger.

The new Altima is just what the 5th gen Maxima should have been - meanwhile we've all been devalued. It has the mods people have been looking for - clear lenses (ugh), torque, dual exhaust, full fenderwells and real suspension. I'll take mine when they get 6 speed and LSD.
